9 weeks post ORIF ankle surgery and still not walking?

Posted , 2 users are following.

i dislocated my ankle, broke it in 5 places and fractured my fibula on 5/12/20

I was in splint for 2 weeks then cast for 4 weeks and now im 3rd week in boot!

i am on crutches and can only just sometimes fully weight bear. my calf muscle has completely withered and the physio has given me stretches to do!! Im getting a lot of pain when doing these and when trying to walk on boot! is this normal for 9 weeks post surgery?

I was hoping to be back at work by 12 weeks but now im fearful i may not even be walking by then 😭 Any help advice or experience with this would be greatly appreciated.

I am not sure if i should be pushing through the pain or just taking it easy!

Hello, I broke and dislocated my ankle back in Nov of 2019. 2 plates and 12 screws. i wasn't able to weight bear for what seemed like the longest time. it took me about 12 weeks to actually get the hang of walking. Practice practice practice. It does suck but push yourself and it gets easier. I am back to walking and doing my normal activities. Your foot will hurt as you weight bear....but its important to get the muscle memory going again. The more you walk, the less it will hurt. Good luck.
