I'm only 3 weeks post op so I'm not assuming I could break the rule now but ..... Will I ever be able to bring my knee up to my chin and paint my toenails???? Do we have to abide by the 90 degrees rule forever???

My surgeon said to be careful the first 12 weeks. Then you should be OK.
If you really need to bend it to an extreme, make sure it's straight on, not to the side. He said the best way to dislocate is to bend your knee right up then move it right across your body.

you can ask him all your questions when you see him at your follow up appointment ...
I know that you are getting impatient and frustrated, so come here and ask away ... we know, understand, empathize and have tips !!!1

About 3 months is the number my surgeon gave me to be safe, that's about where I am, RTHR July 27, feeling good. Be safe you do not want to go through this again. Get a pedicure, I did before surgery, something I had never done, now I know why my wife does it all the time.

Get hubby to do it for you, he might not be the best painter of nails but its very relaxing.
Time seems to go slowly while your waiting but don't whatever you do try to rush it.

I'm thinking pedicure, thanks guys, never had one before. I'm just cross and sick of it all today. I just want to be normal, I want to be able to shave my legs 😭😭😭. Life just sucks a bit right now.

It will get faster as time goes by, and normal will be there before you know it, being down in the dumps is something most people go through, tears even for men are not uncommon, I'm jealous that a few more weeks and you will be walking and like having a baby this will become a distant memory

I've got a long handled wash thingy, with four different heads, sponge, nylon scrubber, moistureriser, and pumice. The only thing missing is a razor. Sooooooo, i cellotape my normal razor to the handle! Job done. I bought this on amazon think it was about £15 but well worh it when you can't bend.

I totally know how u feel, I had my thr on 10/10/16 3 weeks ago now. I'm 53 and was pretty active. I hate depending on people to put my socks on or pull up my pants, I have the sock aid and a grabber but it's never around when I need it. I'm using a cane now and even walking a little without that but it's still not fast enough I want to feel normal again

Yes Bobbi .. The bottom of my feet feels like sandpaper but I cannot reach them to rub lotion in .. Nor on my bad leg so they are really dry . Hubby did it and it was lovely .. Was something I did every day but they are neglected now 😏

Yes that's me too .. Mine was 8/10/16. Using my grabber to put my pants on .. And it is never there ! Even when I hook it into my trousers it seems to wander off .. Where is my grabber seems to be the question if the day in our house ! Then my husband is ' borrowing ' it as he says it's useful !

No Bobbie,
It seems forever. However , after twelve weeks, restrictions are lifted.
I had my first replacement in Jan and second four weeks ago.
Seventeen weeks after my first op, I fell heavily onto ceramic tiles and landed on my new hip. I'm quite slim so had no cushioning. Apart from bruising, my new hip was absolutely fine and I was advised that my muscles and tendons, after twelve weeks were strong enough to hold my new hip without the fear of dislocation.
Hang on in there. Times passes quickly. Ensure you carry out your physio and by Christmas you will be dancing. I promise.💕

Funny you should ask this question, as I was given some information about restrictions while in hospital.
It says that the restrictions are no longer necessary as it can delay the healing process, and you should listen to your body so you know how far you can move your leg.
I am going to start a thread and write what on the leaflet so other hippies can read it also.
