90 degree rule lifted

Well you would think that would be easy but think they forgot to tell my body.  I am 8 weeks today and after seeing my surgeon on Tuesday he said although I had to take care with some things I need not worry about the 90 degrees and indeed to encourage my body to go past it.  Trust me this becomes a work out with muscles complaining, particularly the thigh and butt.  Feel as though I have gone back a pace in my recovery.  Quite understand why he said no to any PT.  Must work on the given exercises post op until my naughty leg behaves the same as my good leg.  Instead of doing hte marching on the spot I have to lie on back and bring knee up to chest (well as near as possible) and gently pull it down a little futher each day.  Think he has turned into a joker!!! However after 2 days and 4 repetitions daily I for the first time did up my shoelaces - since my op of course,  I could do them up before.  Time now for a lie down with some chocolate.

Time scale for this complete recovery to normal movement 3- 4 months

Are you in the UK? We all seem to get different advice depending on where we are. I am 14 weeks post op & have been told I can never break the 90 degree rule again!

I put my own socks & trainers on this morning & was then in too much pain to go to the gym. I wish I had some chocolate but I do have wine!

Yes I am UK. Think the reason we all get different advice depends on type of implant, complications, reason for having it in the first place. I have been concreted so now no possible of dislocation after 8 weeks

I suppose we all expect to be doing the same things as everyone else but there are many reasons for needing this op and everyone is different. Depending on where you live we all seem to be given different advice.

If I have learnt anything in the last 14 weeks it is to ask others on this forum as there is nearly always someone who can help.

Are you UK Val? Why did you need a new hip? I have mild osteoarthritis but complicated with severe osteoporosis and therefore easy to fracture. When dealing with my bones it's like Edam cheese. So best to do THR while there is still bones to work with and before a fracture

That sounds nasty! I'm in East Yorkshire, 66 years old. Been in pain for a few years & MRI scans showing bulging discs but pain not consistent with where they thought it should be!

I did have an MRI as well and it showed trapped sciatic nerve which was bulging so had an epidural pain killer under a general. This was done in November and has worked wonders. Hip done March 19 so now pain free apart from post op aches

At 66 new lease of life

      Xx

Interesting - i saw my surgeon last Wednesday - he wanted me to continue Physical Therapy but still be careful with the 90* rule - no straining yet -

for now I do whatever I can do without pain - still badly limping though -

take care and have a wonderul night
