9yrs after prostate removed, just diagnosed with cancer again

Dad is 67. His initial cancer in 2005 resulted in the removal of his prostate. PSA tests regularly ever since. Had a call from consultant last week telling him his latest test showed PSA of 4. Told him he has cancer cells somewhere in his body but they don't know where. And won't be able to use radiotherapy for this.
That's as much as we know. Have no idea what this means and what the plan will be.
Is this secondary cancer after so many years?

I am sorry to hear about your Father's elevated PSA reading.
As I have been given to understand it, the Medical Profession do not use the term ' cure ' when referring to cancer. They prefer ' in remission' which they quantify as being cancer-free for five years. So in the first place, your Father has to be congratulated for having doubled that.
This is obviously a worrying time for you both. Doubtless the Consultant did not leave you both hanging there and Dad will be seeing him at the next available opportunity?
At that time a diagnostic and treatment plan will be formulated and he will be back in the fold of a caring and supportive team.
The likelihood is that your Father with monitoring and treatment, could have many years of good quality life ahead of him. Which will give you both time to adjust to what seems now a troubling , but not wholly unexpected, test result.
Good luck to you both with it all. In the meantime, perhaps we should all be trying California Dave's Green Tea etal. I wonder if they do a de-caf ?
Best wishes
Dudley

Ive had prostrate cancer for 6 years. i was told it was terminal and i had a year to live. im still here. My scan in September last year was not good and the cancer was speading. I was given a year again.
Im on Abiraterone which is very expensive and only given on perscription when the cancer speads its about £800 a week. My last two scans indicate that the cancer has stopped spreading.but never the less its like a roller coaster going up and down but inm still here. At 74 im hoping a bit longer.
Im told hower it doesnt suit every one may be imn fortunate. May be you should be taking to them about it.
Good Luck

Dad has told me tonight that this morning he's coughed up clots of blood.
dad has various health problems inc kidney failure, blood clot on his lung, and mini strokes - so he's already on a good mixture of medications! In light of Monday's diagnosis of Cancer, I know I have to tell someone of today's development, because Dad has short term memory lapses and won't remember to mention it when he speaks to a doctor. Should I ring his GP in the morning?

id think the best option would be the hospital just to be on the safe side.
Cancer is very slow growing and could have been dormant for all those years. some thing triggers it and it starts again.
Good Luck
