A advice on Sleeping and not sleeping with CFS/ME
Posted , 4 users are following.
I had a very restless night last night and ended up taking a sleeping tablet in desperation at around 3am... the trouble is I still have the side effects going on the next day 12 /14 hours later, I only take a sleeping pill when all else fails and I have gone well past/beyond the nodding off stage.
On other days, I just sleep a lot of the time and have a trouble staying awake. Goodness only knows what people think one minute I’m too tired the next I’m saying I can’t sleep
Does anybody have any wisdom on this issue of sleeping and not sleeping cycles with CFS/ME.

No electronics after a certain time, no food after a certain time, not using the bedroom for anything other than sleeping, warm milk, soothing music, sleeping pills. Nothing has seemed to help me either.
I wish you the best and hope you manage to find something that gives you some relief!

I practice a good sleep routine as you say, but sometimes for the life of me sleep fails to happen, and then other times I sleep for 18+ hours. Sleep deprivation is a form of torture the deprivation messes with a person’s cognitive abilities that are known to be largely controlled by the prefrontal cortex of the brain.
So saying having ME/CFS is Torture… would ring true I guess.

I suffered from extreme insomnia for months and then one day I did a complete 180 and have been constantly tired and will sleep for 12+ hours. None of my sleeps are ever refreshing whether they're 1 hour or 10.
Some people say that anti-depressants have helped them but they made me feel sluggish and like an empty shell so I had to stop. I guess each person is different and what will help one may not help the other unfortunately.

I have suffered with chronic fatigue for the best part of my adult life and i'm nearing 40, so as you can imagine I have tried pretty much everything else over the years. My doctors have no clue why this would help (and neither do i quite honestly) I only tried it as a friend suggested I may have sleep apnea and read this can help obstructive sleep apnea but my test for sleep apnea was negative.
I have found very few other people on the internet suggesting trying sleeping in an elevated position but not many, so I don't want to get your hopes up that it will work for you - so I apologise now if you find this unhelpful
