A few tips that helped me that may help you.

I was struck down with awful Virtigo around the start of February, the doctors have yet to give me an explanation but suspect I have inner ear damage.I am currently waiting for an appointment to see an E.N.T. For the first two months I could barely walk and did what I suspect a lot of people do and try to stay as still as possible and avoid situations that make me dizzy.Around the start of May after no improvement I decided to change tactics, I started a VRT programme on U tube by Byung Han a neurologist,he has many different videos for visual retraining and VRT that range from around 1-4 minutes long.I do around twenty minutes in the morning and night and it has helped me so much, the next thing I did was go to the places that make me dizzy which for me it was any supermarket as I couldn't focus and it would leave me very dizzy but over time it has improved. My next advice is water water and more water keep really hydrated,I started back working out and I run a boxing club so that keeps me busy, don't do to much to soon as a couple of times I've set my self back a little bit by exercising to much.I take a 1000mg of cod liver oil and multivits I don't know if they help but I take them anyway.I would say I'm 75 percent back to normal and hope to keep getting better just remember this is not permanent and stay positive. The last thing I will say is The VRT and visual training will make you feel worse before your better and you have to keep going it took around 4 weeks for me to see a difference.I hope this may help a few people as it helped me.

Great positive message Mark, pretty much what I've been trying to do. Beware of relapses though, I've just had a big one - thought I was nearly there then wham, flat on my back again. I had all the testing and they decided vestibular neuritis after flu in Feb, though no structural damage and tests normal (?)so similar time to you. Absolutely the worst 5 months of my life. I'm now trying to get back speedily to normal after the kick back , heres hoping

Yes Chris I had an upper respiratory infection & a few months later this stuff (dizzy) started up.  It is now 9 months!!  This a.m. I went out & about to do errands & thought I did well.  But by after noon I wasn't able to do anything  but take a nap.  Was able to go out this evening to hear some music but when went to leave I had to hold my hubbys arm as walking straight was an issue.  And forget alcohol only had a soft drink.  There you have my day.

Wow, thanks for sharing your experience. Great you found methods to improve... An aquaintance with similar problems was told by his Dr. to take massive amts of Vitamin D to help with dizziness. Thank you again for the helpful advice.

Mark I am low in D which happens often to me.  There was an article in our local paper regarding Vit & Dizziness. There had been research reported in a Journal of Neurology  in March 2013.  A person quotes they are much better after taking the D.   I take 4000 units a day.  Are you in the U S?

Mark thank you for your input.  Seems like you learned your way around this awful condition.  I will try to drink more water I believe you that it is important.

I am doing better than I was but not out of the woods yet. Thanks

Hi Marie I have purchased some vitamin D from the Internet as it sounds positive so I will try,I am from England and unfortunately the understanding of this horrible condition is very limited so you have to try and help yourself.I read that by evening you feel very tired which is very similar to me I put it down to the brain having to work so hard just to balance me,it's good to hear your doing better as 9 months is a very long time,I have come to realise that I'm not going to wake up one day and be cured it's something that will get less and less noticeable with time until Its just gone. All the best Marie hope your back to yourself soon.

Well Mark seems the same here in that we patients have to search for our own "cures",  Unfortunately today is not a good day.  I woke up & I noticed right away that I was back in the fog.  Why?  We went to hear some music last night at a club that sits elevated to the city.  Was it the elevation, I don't know but another saturday down the drain.  I am emotional over this & want to scream!!  This has affects on our significant other & our friends if we made plans.  RIght?  Try to have a social life!   Ok now I'll go back to trying to be positive smile  Not.

This might seem out of left field but I have investigating ways to increase my hormones - hrt not quite sufficient.  I have discovered that good cholesterol (HDL, I think - can never remember which) is the precursor to our hormones, AS WELL AS Vit D!

I have haemochromatosis and we with HH are generally low in good cholesterol, vit D and hormones.  Now I see the link.

So, how is your GOOD cholesterol?  Don't accept one number, ask for both LDL and HDL.  Also request a test for Vit D, Vit B12, and Iron Studies/panels.  Too much iron (as in haemochromatosis) can cause neurological problems (as does deficiency in Vit B12) and not many drs test Iron Studies.  Just an iron test does not tell the whole story.

Vit D3 Forte drops work better than tablets.  Some people cannot absorb Vit D via tablets (I for one), and some people cannot absorb Vit B12 via tablets (my husband in that case - that is how I know what a deficiency in Vit B12 will do).
