A friend recommended silicon pads for the scars, anyone have experience with these?

I was speaking with a friend a few days ago. She had orthopedic work about 3 weeks prior to my bilateral knee replacement surgery Oct. 28. She was asking me what I was doing related to the scars. I told her I used Vit. E and coconut oil several times a day. She said she was also using Vit. E but also silicon pads over the scars. These were recommended by her surgeon and her physical therapist. I was encouraged to massage the scar area and use Vit. E but nothing was ever said related to anti-scar pads. Anyone have information on these?

    Your scar will diminishby itself with time anyway.  Using oils or silicon gels will aid this.  You will not rid yourself of it 100%.

    By massaging constantly you are preventing any build-up of tissue underneath the scar and also desensitizing the operated area where the nerves are healing

    Thank you. I felt this may be the case. I prefer the use of vitamin e or coconut oil over a silicon gel. I was just curious. I wondered if "time" were not the most important factor in the overall appearance of the scar. One friend was really pushing it though. I'm aware that the silicon patch is only about the external appearance of the scar and little more. Wasn't sure if it was worth it or not. I believe they are quite pricey.

      You are most welcome.  The other thing to remember is whether you are one of those people whose scars never really fade or diminish.  I am both.  On one knee you can still see the marks from stitches and staples and on the other just a thin white line.  Scar reduction gels are pricey and no, they don’t always work.  You are better off with what you are doing already. Vit E oil is good. I ran out of the bottled version once and ended using the capsules you swallow. Same difference, skin still soft, scar still visible. I just googled scar management and found  a page calld “29 home remedies for acne scars”.  Should image these are for ‘new’ scars, but,  A scar is a scar isn’t it?  Oh the things we do when bored at work!!!  I have an old Mrs Beeton at home, I shall read what she has to say.

      Plenty of sun is also a good thing, all that vitamin d, just another sideways thought... Retinal A is good for our skin; shop around there are stores that sell it and it doesn't cost the earth. It's good for wrinkles.  Like some of the drugs that they discover these days,  are good for something other than what they were designed for, creams can do the same thing.  It might be a little late for me, but for you.  Who knows,  you may come up with a wonder cream... A peaceful weekend to you x
