A general question....

I'm curious to know...in order to receive notifications, do you have to have replied to a post?
sometimes I don't really have an answer for someone's post, but I still enjoy reading others responses. it helps me to become more educated on all of this.
the reason I'm asking is because I just happened upon a thread that was very informative, but I didn't. know was even on the forum cuz I'd not been notified.
again, do I need to respond to every post in order to be included?
sorry if I'm sounding naive, just trying to figure this out (STILL!)

peggy...I know I'm gonna sound "lame", but when I tap on "follow", it switches to "unfollow"....doesn't that mean I'm not interested in receiving notifications on that post?
please bear with me...I'm really trying to figure this out and feeling quite frustrated right now! I'm literally having to search for EVERYTHING right now ...Ughhh😣

You should get a notification for every new discussion. It's not a easy to see ones you may have missed with the new format, but if you click the "notifications" link you will always get a list of unread notifications. Again, this is much clunkier than it used to be. I can't scroll down to the next page, although I know I have far more unread notifications than appear at the moment because I'm finding it impossible to keep up. Before, you could scroll down and it was really obvious what you'd read and what you hadn't and you could quickly "mark as read" a lot of the replies you knew you'd already seen in a given discussion, a process which now takes forever. There was even a little red dot which told you when you had unread notifications and that isn't there any more.
Once you open a new thread "So and so has started a new discussion" click on Follow as Peggy advised and from then on you will receive notifications of all the replies to that post. If the notifications are not being mailed to your email they will still show up in the list on the page under "notifications". I always try to follow every new discussion.

l try and follow each new discussion as well ( even if I don't contribute). it's hard to keep up when you're unaware there's one goin' on! ....Ughhh

hmmm! just made an interesting (if not Frustrating) discovery!
after reading a reply I'd been alerted to in my email, I kept scrolling down and found SEVERAL others I was unaware of...wouldn't have seen them if I'd not taken by myself to "investigate"!😏😱

No - if you reply to a post you will get notifications. If you don't, you won't unless you have clicked on the box saying Follow that is opposite the title of the post...
The fact it changes to unfollow is for you to click on if you change your mind and don't want to follow it any more.

THANK YOU EILEEN!! now THAT makes sense to me!
so if I understand you right, I'll get ALL notifications at the 1st post, then if I don't have any advice to contribute, I'll still get notifications as long as I click on "follow"?
