well, here I am exactly 6 months post TRHR. It feels like my own, have no trouble or pain, no hobble or limp, scar hardly visible, feel like I am 'normal' for the last month or more (didn't want to tempt fate posting earlier) !! Can walk at least 5 or so miles easily but not tried much further due to weather. Good luck to all going through the recovery and those waiting for op.

Must be fantastic to have traveled the journey and now finding you are able to except the new hip as your own and enjoy your life to the full, is your left hip fine or will you need that one doing in the future.
Take care and God bless you and may all your future steps be long and pain free

That's wonderful! I'm almost 4 months TRHP and today I walked 4.4 miles, no pain in groin, knee or hip. I'm back to yoga and find it incredibly healing!

Hi Helen ,
well done, thats great news for you ! so pleased for you....:)
I have just had blood tests today and also a ECG prior to seeing what type of anaesthetic will be decided upon on my Monday morning Hospital appointment Hoping my operation will be sooner rather than later. Can't wait to get some normality back into my life!! living with so much constant pain is so difficult.

This is so encouraging to hear!
I'm at nearly 9 weeks from TRHR. Feeling pretty good all round. Scar fading fast (using bio oil as advised here). Scarcely using crutches at all (actually only in crowds where I may need to defend myself from bounding dogs (the "he won't hurt you" type!) and out-of-control toddlers on scooters. The hip feels absolutely like my own, no hobble or limp etc, but there is still room for improvement re flexibility. When were you able to tie your right shoe laces and cut your right toenails? (I can do the left side easily now.)
Also I can now lie and sleep on my left side (for about the last ten days). Tried the right (ie operated) side again last night - I could lie on it properly for the first time but it was still a bit too uncomfortable to sleep on.
I'm still much more tired than normal for me - when did that start to improve? Not sure if I am still catching up on nearly 6 months of pretty well sleepless nights before the op.
I am doing lots of exercises twice daily - was surprised at my 6-week check to be advised by my surgeon that I should continue them for a year to a year and a half. I'm planning to get back to tennis and skiing - don't know if he advised longer because of that, or whether it's standard advice.
Any answers welcomed!
Joan

lovely to hear such positive comments. I've not had my OP yet but all of this is so encouraging. I cant answer any of your questions I'm afraid besides possibly the sleep one. it's probably a combination of lack of sleep pre OP for months plus the OP. I'm sure most get a bit anaemic post OP as cutting into bone will make you loose blood . I know the hospital will check your blood levels etc but I'm sure that in itself takes a while to recover.
I've just got myself a Fitbit tracker mainly cos I'm concerned I wasnt moving abt enough ( I'm doing more than I'd expected) but it also tracks your sleep pattern. I knew I was awake a fair bit in the night but this is just confirming it.
anyway hope your recovery goes from strength to strength and I'd be the same abt dogs and children lol. 😃

Hi Joan, managed shoes around 5 weeks and nails around 7, trick for nails if this helps, sit on the 2nd or 3rd stair and try from there with operated leg on step below, I tried this at 7 weeks and it worked for me. Sleep was ok after week 5 or so, I could kip on operated for a while but I am a wriggle arse in bed and do tend to move around a lot. Stomach was most comfortable for me.

Hi Joan, it sounds as though you're doing well at nearly 9 weeks. I think feeling tired is to be expected, just take it easy and rest when you need to. I remember getting quite tired and achy, especially when I was back at work. I too had RTHR and I really like sleeping on my right side, but I just found it uncomfortable sleeping on my scar. Think it was probably several months or so. I think the whole hip recovery can take up to a year. (You mentioned skiing, I was back on my skis at about 8 months, just taking it steadily and avoiding the bumps! My sister was back playing tennis at about 6 months.) Good luck with your recovery.

Such good advice for shoes and nails.
I cut my left toenails yesterday, sitting on the second step. And put on my trainers and tied both sets of laces today. Just the right toenails not quite in reach, but getting there.

Such good advice for shoes and nails, thank you.
Cut left toenails yesterday. Today put on socks and trainers, and tied both sets of laces. All from the second step. Just the right toenails not quite there yet.
Also have had the first day with no painkillers at all - and walked 12000 steps along the promenade and back. Bit tired now!
