A little worried

Hi all. I've had a rthr and a bone graft due to hip dysplaysia. 3 months out I'm doing ok but still have pain and use a cane. Once I get going it's not too bad but if I sit down I'm in trouble. After sitting I have trouble standing straight and putting weight on my leg for a while. I'm back at my busy job with kids so this is not helpful.

Thoughts?

Hi Denise! I'm on Day 14 post op...RTHR as well. So far I'm doing well. I sure hope these things you've described don't happen to me and I'm so sorry sad I was in so much agony before my surgery, that I can't imagine being anything but pain free. Have you consulted your Orthopedic Dr? Just doesn't sound right to me? Good luck with your upcoming procedure.

I misread your original post. Thought you were having another surgery?? Smh! Sorry..

I don't want to worry you but I would go to doctors and be referred for an X-ray. This happened to me, after sitting I'd get up and it would take a good 5-10 seconds for me to be able to put weight on it and start moving without pain. The implant had come loose so it was back to crutches. At least if you see doctor you can out mind at ease. Good luck

    hi denise,

12 weeks post-op and you are already back at work?

as said here many times before, you are still in the early process of healing from major surgery - it is normal to feel stiffness and discomfort in affected muscles, darling - I am many more moons post-op than you (from 2 THR's) and still have to pause when getting up ...using a cane is okay too ... just means that your body is still trying to reallign and adjust to new posture to bring you in to balance -

it is very easy to slip back in to pre-op default walking mode, aka as limping -

however, when you feel pain when you put weight on or when taking steps, see your surgeon ... do you have another appointment scheduled?

I would just to make sure that everything is alright ...

    big warm hug

    renee

I had my 6 wk check. He was very happy. Hip looked great on X-ray. I am now straight and my surgery recovery time is double that of a normal thr. I'm sure I'm just being impatient. My other hip is bung with the same problem so that's probably not helping.

Thanks for yr comforting words. ????

    Hi Denise

dont know if you've a pool nearby, but I've had lots of improvement since doing my exercises in the warm water.

I'd say get hold of your doctor for some physio- but I've been waiting 10 weeks and still nothing!

on another take- has anyone out there experienced swollen ankles and feet?? When I've been sitting a while ( say at lunch table) I swell up like a balloon. Never suffered before, any suggestions??

Hi Kate, I'm only 2 weeks post op and my sister decided to kidnap me for a few hours. Get me out of the house??. I went to her home, which has no reclining chair. After 3 hours my leg was badly swollen? I guess the vascular system in this area has to heal as well??

Hiya I had a rthr 16 days ago. After about a week my whole leg swelled. Then my leg went down and my ankle was round and I couldn't move it. I had my staples out Monday and although my ankle still puffy it's much better. I try to walk regularly even if it's a little way. My main concern is dislocating my hip which I understand is easy to. I would say just listen to what your hip is saying and don't try to run before you can walk. Please excuse the pun

Expect you're right Cathy, the world is full with good intentioned family and friends, trouble is most of them have no idea what we're going through. To be quite honest when you think about it we're all walking around on bits of ceramic and titanium! I think we're bloody marvellous !!! Go hippies, enjoy the sunshine and have a relaxing weekend. X

Denise.  Could you explain.  Dysplaysia and why a bone graft.

Hip dysplaysia is when the hip doesn't sit in the socket properly due to it not being formed properly. When treated as a baby this can often be corrected. A lot of us for whatever reason get unlucky here and have problems through life with the affected hip or hips.

The bone graft was to partially reconstruct the socket so the new hip could be fitted properly.

So you had the problem and no one explained it. ? You seem to have already had similar procedures to me. I'm not sure why you need to ask for an explanation.
