A second THR anyone?

How many people found that their other hip deteriorated after having the first one done?
Does anyone know the statistics? I have looked online but it is hard to unravel. Lots of info about bilateral THR and something about having one done within three months of the other.
I am just keeping "ahead of the game" becaue this is how my first hip started off.

i was unlucky . By the time I got to see my surgeon 4 years after my GP put me forward for pain investigation both my hips were bad I didn't even have to go back to my GP for referral it showed up on the first X Ray. I would say you should count yourself very lucky if you get away with just having one hip done.

I can already feel the same twinges starting in hip number two. I think I should maybe see my new GP (left the old practice because of overcrowding) and start the long process all over again. I it takes another four years for the NHS to act then I will be on this website until 2020!

why not get in touch with your surgeon. Ask if you could go in for an X Ray to see what is going on with your other hip because you are getting pain with it. He might say yes because it is so close to having your first hip done. He may also want to keep an eye on it and might be able to get you in quicker if it turns out to be the start of arthritis. It's worth a try

I asked him if the good hip showed any signs of wear and he said no, none at all.
I have a feeling that our bodies know more than the x-ray machine can show. We have a kind of early warning system in our bodies I think. But most of the time we ignore the alarm bells and just carry on.
Maybe I am just worrying for nothing. Time will tell.
Thanks,
Shirley

It is very hard for a non-medically trained person tomake sense of the published statistics isn't it.
I have been trying to find instances of my post-operative problem - a mis-placed ceramic acetabular insert - without much success, other than some cases back in 2007.

There ought to be a website for non-medical people who are literate but non=scientific. I am a good reader but there is a lot of woffle and bragging to cut through before you reach the facts.
If I see anything about acetabular inserts being misplaced I will message you.

To be honest, I think this is the most useful website I have ever come across - so many people offering help and supportin whatever way they know.

I suspect many on this site have multiple joint issues.
