A snapping pain...what happened?

I had my right hip replaced 15 months ago. I was saying goodnight to my daughter kneeling down and turned off her lamp twisting and my left hip (as yet not replaced) kind of snapped, I felt a terrible pain as if a very large tooth was being wrenched out, and now I am limping very badly. My left hip has been playing up for a while (it keeps me awake at night with the pain - the 'toothache' pain we are all recognise, and I find long days quite painful) but apart from that I have been managing really well. My right hip went downhill very quietly and this certainly didn't happen.

The snapping feeling was horrible, I couldn't stand up afterwards and now am finding it hard to even sit down and stretch it, it feels completely different to before. Has anyone else had this experience?

Ouch! I'd get myself to the orthopedist and have an x-ray. For me, the bone-on-bone pain started in very suddenly, with no obvious trigger.

    Hi Rose,

I'd get in to see an orthopedic specialist as soon as possible.  If you can't get in with one immediately, at least see a doctor who can do x-rays and give you pain meds to help in the interum.  Wishing you the best, and keep us posted!

I echo others. I stood up, and that was it - terrible pain and four hours later I was on gas and being rushed to hospital in an ambulance! It was for hours later because I stupidly thought it'd fix itself! For me it literally was the hip bone crumbling away - my arthritis had become osteonecrosis!!!! If it is hurting badly and you can't see the doctor, go to accident and emergency. Osteonecrosis can come on very suddenly, and can feel like it's come out of nowhere. Better safe than sorry.
