Has anyone out there had a gastrografin procedure? Last year I had a colonoscopy, It was such a traumatic experience I vowed I would never have it again. After a follow up visit to my consultant last month, he suggested I had a gastrografin X Ray. The descriptio hvery mucke a colonoscopy, but I was assured it wasn't like that at all. So I didn't worry about it and went for the procedure last week. However, the same scenario - tube up the rear end, and the pain was horrendous, the doctor turned a deaf ear to my pleas to stop, saying, stick with it, it will soon be over. I got through it, but the staff got worried about my condition and I became quite iil and was taken on a trolley to A & E where I was given emergency treatment.
it took me 3hrs to recover. The doctor on duty said, I am sorry you had a bad reaction to your colonoscopy, to which I replied it wasn't a colposcopy, but a gastrografin procedure, he smirked and said "it's the same thing".
I felt a bit under the weather for a couple of days after. I just wanted to say if anyone has to go through this procedure, it is just like a colonoscopy. I was told that many people sail through this with no probs, and I am sure many do. I really don't wish to worry anyone who may have to have this procedure, but I be aware of what to expect.

They should undergo the tests they advocate and treat so casually, themselves.
I too had a thoroughly traumatic colonoscopy in the Royal Hants County Hospital, and shall never undergo another session of such torture without total anaesthesia. Sadly, I have not discovered the name of the 'doctor' who
damaged me so severely; if I ever do, I shall insist on lodging a complaint and insist
on confronting her. But would that help change the attitude to this procedure.
I hope after your awful experience, your results were acceptable? My best wishes. Get well soon.

The procedure is important for correct diagnosis.
Next ask for gas and air. This will help a huge amount.
Also ask for the DVD of your endoscopy. Then set it to music for your family's entertainment.
I am being flippant because I have colitis and I treat it as a minor inconvenience.
It's the way I cope with a life changing illness.
I have been in flair up since January and I can tell you it really gets me down sometimes. Today has been bad pain all day.
My medics have been great apart from a nurse who dropped my bad leg which hurt like hell.
Anyway Madge chin up and remember you are British.
You are absolutely welcome to moan on this website.

Camera on a tube is passed around the colon the doctor watches this on a monitor. To me this is a colonoscopy under a different name. But you are not given any medication to ease the pain. Because it is called an X RAY. I found this procedure just as painful as a colonoscopy and I would advise anyone who may need this to insist on having some kind of sedative.
