A year since I started my sertraline journey

hi all, just though I would give you an update

I started sertraline last Jan for anxiety and low mood. I started on 25mg for around 5 weeks, I was too scared to increase due to the horrible side effects, my gp convinced me to up it and gave me a sick not for extra time off work. I remember having to time taking the tablets so I didn't feel the horrible side effects when I took my children to school and that the worse would be over by the time I picked them up again.

it wasn't easy and I hated it, counted to days down as I heard I would feel better in 5 days, 2 weeks, 5 weeks etc...when they had kicked in.

I went on holiday 2 weeks after upping the dose to 50mg and at times I felt horrible, I remember going out for a nice meal with my family and nearly vomiting, and the headaches were horrible.

anyway fast forward a year and here I am, I still take 50mg of sertraline and things are so much better, I now run a lot, which I think helps loads, and I dont feel rubbish any more.

yes I still have bad days but I think that is because I am a human.

keep with it, one day you would forget how you feel right now, ride the sertraline waves to happiness and be kind to yourself

You go Kerry! Thanks for sharing. My daughter was lucky, had minor side effects (still complains about dry mouth though), but she was very very depressed and after about 12 weeks on Sert she was so much better and after 5 months she is 100% recovered. (She eventually went up to 150 which is where she still is.) I urge everyone to hang in with it and you should see results.

thank you kerry for taking the time to post this, it gives much needed hope to those who are still suffering the scary horrible side effects and to those who just want the meds to work and get back to normal life. I am 5 weeks into taking 50mgs, 3 and a half months on sert in total and although still not 100 percent, I know, because of posts like yours, I will get there. Long may your good mental health continue x
