Abdominal hysterectomy

So I had surgery on Aug 3rd this month, had a abdominal hysterectomy everything gone but ovaries at first was difficult I was running fevers, was severely malnourished due to being so nauseas and low blood pressure. Now my question is important sleeping a lot but one thing I have noticed is ill randomly hear voices asking questions or talking to me and I'll reply back and everyone is looking at me all confused. Is this normal at all? Sorry if things don't sound right very drowsy

No that's not normal. What medication are you taking? Have you caught back up on intake of fluids and food? Maybe you're so sleepy that your dreams are more vivid than usual & in fact your suddenly waking out of a dream each time?

Hi janet are you taking any medication? This could be down to strong painkillers you are taking. I know from my own experience after my hysterectomy I was on strong painkillers and I felt very drowsy and couldn't always follow conversations and family said I did come out with some random things which they found funny. Make sure you are getting enough to eat and drink especially fluids if you haven't got much appetite. Good luck x

Yes they have me on 2 different kinds of pain killers and nausea medicine because the first couple days of surgery I had my head in a bucket nonot stop. Tying to eathe and drink a lot but I sleep most of the day lol so my body doesn't realize it's hungry.

You ARE a worry! You posted the same post 4x!!! What medications are they as they must be affecting you pretty bad. Do you really need such strong drugs now? Because you should be getting up and walking around at home by now to prevent clots and just for general circulation, digestion, etc. I don't think it's good to be sleeping like you are. Is somebody there caring for you? Your a week post-op now so I would have thought you would be up & dressed and sitting in lounge during the day by now & having frequent walks around inside during the day. Something like panadol & antiflam should be sufficient now. Are you actually taking meds because you are in pain or because you think you might be if you don't take them? It seems to me you've got an adverse reaction to one of them. I get that from stemetil which is anti-nausea. It acts like a sleeping pill. You shouldn't even need anti-nausea by this stage either. You could also be delarious due to dehydration which is not at all safe or good for your body. If not eating enough your blood sugar could be very low too. If I knew what you were taking I'm sure I would be saying ditch them & take regular over the counter painrelief. I wonder if you are on the likes of a synthetic morphine which can also make you nauseous so if you stop the one tripping you out (? Tramadol or similar) then you also won't need anti-nausea med.

How many days were you in hospital? Surely they could have managed your vomiting with anti-nausea injections and kept you hydrated via IV drip where they could have given you dextrose etc. rather than just saline? Also 2 days of post-op vomiting isn't going to make you "severely malnourished"! I wouldn't have thought hospital would send you home unless you were coping with eating & drinking & able to be up & walking around.

Yes I am walking around as much as I can and yes I did find out its because of the medication they'll have me on. But I had the 4-6 inch cut in didn't have it lapriscopic which is what it seems like you guys are thinking with who said I shouldn't be in pain. That was posted 4 times DUE TO ERROR not purposely. They said I was severely malnourished WHEN I WENT into surgery not after due to the fact that because of everything going on was making me so nauseas but I couldn't take anything for it due to it made me so out of it while at work. Yes I'm eating and drinking doc said until my body is back to normal that I will have to eat several times a day if I eat all at once that it'll make me sick.

Hi Janet I'm glad you found out it was due to the medication. I had a vaginal hysterectomy and was on strong painkillers for about two weeks, the pain was too much if I tried to ease off the meds before then so I would imagine the pain to be worse if you have been cut and It's only been a week your bound to be in pain. Everybody heals and deals with pain differently. I hope you start to feel better soon xx

I don't think any of us meant you won't still be in pain. It was more that the strong stuff was causing such misery compared to taking something that won't have the extreme adverse reactions they must be causing, but taking the milder stuff to the clock so that they don't wear right off, then your not getting too sore between. Write down the time you last had them so you can time them every 4hrs or whatever the recommended dosing is. The likes of anti-inflammatories work better at preventing further pain once the pain is under control, than trying to fix bad pain already there.
