Abdominal pain and fibromyalgia. Help!

Hi everyone! My name is Sophie and I am nineteen years old. I have been suffering from irritable bowel syndrome for the past three years. I have been experiencing severe abdominal pain, cramps, alternation between constipation and diarrhea, dizziness, fatigue, back pain and fibromyalgia. I had to stop exercising as much as I used to because of the pain and I can't stay out of the house for too long anymore. I am in pain everyday and I have thought about commiting suicide in the past. I didn't give up though and I have decided to fight this hell like the rest of you. Due to a liver problem that I have I can't take painkillers so I am in a lot of pain without having a way out. Doctors told me I will probably have IBS for the rest of my life and that I should endure the pain without pills. I have tried doing therapeutic yoga and acupuncture but it didn't help at all. I even took some herbal ''painkillers'' following alternative medicine but that didn't work out either. If anyone has any advice to share on how to reduce the abdominal pain or the fibromyalgia I would really appreciate it. I also read somewhere that medicinal marijuana helps with the pain, so if anyone gave it a try please let me know how it worked out for you. Stay strong and don't ever give up!

Hello Sophie, I have been working with a local paediatric (children's) gastroenterologist (consultant who specializes in abdominal problems) and we have seen a number of patients who's problems did not respond to medication or changes in diet. We have been finding that a lot of his patients have responded to physiotherapy to address, posture, breathing and core stability. I know it sounds a bit odd but I suggest going to see a physio and asking them to check out your back as your abdominal pain may be referred from your thoracic spine.

If you have been in pain for any time you are probably breathing less with your diaphram and your ribs have probably lost their normal movement pattern. Long term pain can also lead to core stability weakness often exercise will often exacerbate your pain. If this picture sounds like you... let me know and I will try and help where I can - ie I can liaise with your local physio. I cannot say that this will cure your IBS but maybe it could make you more comfortable.

    Hi Sophie,

My name is Joanne,Im a little older than you (49) and this is the first time on any forum but I read your letter last night and just had to reply. I can really sympathise with your feelings

I was diagnosed fourteen months ago. After returning from a holiday in Turkey I started having stomach ache and have had it every day, all day ever since. I am lucky in the fact I have normal bowell movements every day, have no diarohea or constipation but am in continual pain.

I am really struggling working full time as I am so tired all the time.I have put over two stone on in weight as I am so depressed all the time.

My doctor is very unsymapthetic, he wont give me pain killers and has told me to go away and live with it or have my bowell taken away- too be honest I am considering this as I feels as though this is ruining my life.

I have just paid for a food intolerance test to see if that can pin point anything,
