Abdominal pain at my left rib case and radiate to my back and left chest area.

It has been a year since I started experience the pain on my bottom of my left side of the rib. End of last year, I started to experience the pain after I drink alcohol, but did not really identify the trigger. So I still drink alcohol accasionally. The pain is on and off. Sometimes it returns after 2 weeks and I can experience the pain for a day or two. So I started to visit the doctor. My doctor diagnose me, get blood tests, urine test, abdonimal scan, ECG, and chest and left rib xrays. Liver, gallbladder, pancrease, kidneys results are good. Blood test shows that I have high red cell count, high hemoglobin, high hematocrit and high eosinophils. So my doctor to me to drain some blood and so I donate 1 unit of blood to blood bank on October off this year. I have no nausea, no weght loss, no diet loss, no diarrhea. Also I stop drinking alcohol. However, I still experience the pain and now is frequent and longer. I also notice the pain is sometimes after meal and sometimes when nothing in the stomach. Does anyone has similar situation, please advice on what steps to take and what would be the possible cause of such pain? Please help, because I'm worried since all the test are ok but still experience the pain.

HI K.kgirl
I too have the same thing that none of the GI specialists that I went to could tell me why.
The pain and problem begins after the gallabladder surgery which took place five years ago.
I have wierd pain that comes and goes and beacuse of it I too did many blood tests and scans. All came back nornal thanks god.
I too don't know what's the trigger point but sometimes some food or sleeping positions or body movment cause the pain to Conor back.
In the past two years I experienced the most horrible pain of my life. The doctors keep checking on my stomach but could not find anything. Two years ago I suddenly developed sever constupation. And then the worse pain in the stomach specially in the left side under the left rib cage. I could feel the bowl movment especially in the left side. I could not sleep on my back or on my left side I could only sleep on the right side. I could not vacume or do yoga beacuse I sibyls end up with sever pain.
But I did not have any problem with greasy or spicy food. However, beacuse I was afraied that it might be the pancreas I followed a strict diet in which I only ate boiled turkey breast and little rice. I exclude all the dairy and caffein as well but that didn't change anything I was still suffering. Beacuse of all the diet and restrictions I've lost 20lb in few mounths.
The pain would come and go it would stay for a day or week or mounths, but it would get worse with the bowl movment. But none ode doctors even mentioned pancreas problem. Anyway, after two years of suffering it's been a few mounths that the constupation got better and my stomach is little better. But I still can feel the left side pinching, itching and pain it's not sever pain like before but it's there.
So I still don't know what was it. And it makes me think what if it was a pancreas attack that got little better. And what if it comes back in few mounths or a year.

Thanks for sharing...that's is what I really experience. Now the interval of pain is close and stays longer, like a week and on and off. Some food triggers it, but I need to really identify which foods. Since I was frustrated I start to change my diet. I ate more greens and vegetables. I also stop dairy and caffeine. But there are some foods still triggers the pain.
I will have a follow up review with my doctor next week and see what happens next. I will keep you guys updated.

Yes, plz let us know what your doctor tells you. I am curious to know. I also wants to know that if it's normal to come down with a sever pain and suffer for two years and suddenly get better with pancreas.
Sometimes I wonder what if it was not the pancreas but something else.
Ask her if constipation could be the cause of the pain or pancears attack could cause the constupation.

I know it's been two years of suffering for me too. But none of the GI specialists that I go to could tell me why. Just one told me if I agree to do the ERCP then it will reveal if it is pancreas beacuse they can see it from close and do the biopsy. But when he explained about its risks and complications that might happen after the procedure I got scared and refused to the ERCP.

Hi Rick, don't know if you still look at this forum anymore, but I've seen you say you want to help and in one post say you're pretty much an expert. I'd really love to hear what you've learned, especially about diet. Mine was caused by a medication and I don't want traditional treatments. They've failed me in every way so far.
thanks,
lisa
