Abdominal pain plus extras
Posted , 9 users are following.
I've had a very strange array of symptoms and am not sure what to do them or what to even think about them.
The part that worries me the most is the frequency in which it has happened lately.
it starts with my fingertips getting cold and turning numb and painful when that stops i feel like something just above and to the left of my belly button flips inside. if my hand is there i can feel a flip (I'm not pregnant) that's followed by horribly sharp pains that radiate out from it across my stomach. this lasts between 10-15 minutes. when it stops I'm freezing cold and shivering. I then stand in the shower under scalding hot water (it doesn't feel hot) it doesn't warm me up but it helps enough for me not be convulsing from shivering and it takes several hours to actually warm up.

Hi Sara, This does sound serious and I hope you've taken the advice of the other replies and already gone to ER (or A&E - depending on where you are!).
Antibiotics are mentioned a few times here and I just want to remind everyone that they can be (and need to be) very powerful to help overcome certain problems. Unfortunately they all bring side effects with them - some types more than others.
A common antibiotic used in DD and colon cases is Cipro or Ciprofloxacin , which is a fluoroquinolone (others are Levofloxacin/Levaquin, Moxifloxacin/Avelox and Ofloxacin/Floxin). This fluoroquinolone group of antibiotics have had several warnings issued about them (MHRA Drug Safety Updates/FDA Black Box) including in 2019. If you are prescribed Cipro be aware that you can help protect yourself by taking probiotics, not exactly at the same time but at least 2 hours before or 2 hours after. These will help replenish your gut flora from the effects of the antibiotic (which can lead to bad bugs getting out of control as in C.Diff cases (divernotfun).
A study showed that taking antioxidants while on Cipro can possibly prevent adverse reactions from occurring so it's worth taking these as well. The side effects (or adverse reactions) are known to be serious, persistent and potentially disabling in SOME cases. The problem is, no one knows who will be affected and who won't (your doctor will say it's very unlikely to happen - but it does happen, and he hasn't got any magic powers!).
Panic attacks are also a common side effect but the most common are muscle and tendon aches, pains and (in the worst cases) rupture. Read the warnings on the packet leaflet, discuss all options with your doctor and, if they say Cipro is the only answer (or actually, with any antibiotic) please do consider taking probiotics (live yoghurt or capsules) and antioxidants - but a few hours apart from the antibiotic so both things have time to do their job.

Very good advice. When you’re in a life-threatening situation it’s hard to make choices and I’ve had to learn the hard way.
