Healing takes time! Mine ached for YEARS prior to surgery and felt better then achey then better over and over again.
Varicose veins are VERY persistent! You MAY even have new ones already forming.
Try compression stockings ( thigh-high), ice, elevating your legs way over your head, and an anti-inflammatory like Ibuprofen. Interestingly enough, WALKING, not standing helps the circulation, too, and relieves pain.
