Abnormal bruising

So about a week and a half ago I tripped down the stairs coming off our verandah at home. It was pitch black and I was still half asleep so it’s all kind of foggy but I hit my shin on the step and scraped my foot. Not exactly sure on how I landed. 

I got to work the same morning and looked at my leg there was a huge lump on my shin, unlike anything I’ve seen before it looked really abnormal. The next day the swelling slowly started going down and a nasty bruise started to form. That was all fine. Anyways this morning I looked down at my foot and it was swollen on the side and there was a huge dark black and purple bruise, I never hurt my foot there and haven’t had any pain, any idea if this could be related to me hurting my leg and is this normal and should I get this checked out? 

 There was no bruising or anything on my foot before just a graze on the top.

    I also hurt my shin on steps and ended up with bruising all along the sole of my foot.  I was told it was simply where blood was pooling.  It didn't hurt and did lighten day by day.  I thought it was weird but so are so many things.
