Abnormal EKG questions

Posted , 3 users are following.

I had a routine EKG, my psychiatrist was being cautious because some of my psych meds can cause prolonged QT syndrome. My EKG came back abnormal. The QT interval is fine. But the report says:

Sinus rhythm

Probable left atrial enlargement

Left ventricular hypertrophy

Inferior infarct, old

Anterior Q waves, possibly due to LVH

I Googled all these and they sounded scary but there was also mention of false positives. My blood pressure was a little high, I made an appointment with my PCP and faxed the office a copy of the EKG in case they were related. The office called back less than an hour later and said I needed a cardiologist immediately. I'm really scared.

I had a normal EKG in 2014 and 10 months ago my blood pressure was normal.

My husband had a normal ECG according to his GP.  But I felt something wasn't right, just instinct,

We saw a cardio specialist who said there were problems, at my insistance, echo done, which made clear what his problems were.

Admitted to hospital, right drugs found and admistered, pacemaker installed, this just on a year ago as his electrical system shut down.

Husband is now 6 years on with serious heart issue, not expected to survive, as per letter to GP that we have a copy of for insurance claim purposes, so you are lucky that it hasn't become serious enough for ambulance trip as it did in husbands case.

Get to the cardio, they can sort out alot of problems.

Best wishes, stay positive, and follow what the cardio says.

If you need to lose weight do so, husband although not terrribily overweight, did need to lose some and we got onto a good dietian and followed exactly what the cardio said we should do, follow ups with cardio he is always very pleased with husbands progress.

Number 1). Meds can cause a lot of reactions and adverse reactions to the body. Go see the Cardiologist Immediately as requested. Looking things up on the internet before seeing your Cardiologist can cause undue stress, worry and fatigue...dear the Cardiologist...let him ask the questions and be as open as possible with answers so if something is medically wrong the doctor can help. Let him run the test and read the test for a clear diagnosis...He/She will give you info about the test as soon as possible. Just ask questions of the doc to help you understand what may be happening whether with Med's or Diagnosis. Always talk to your doctor first... Then you know what questions haven been answered...Prayers for the best...

Follow up - everything was a false positive!

Nuclear stress test showed that a teeny little area of the heart had a teeny bit of restricted blood flow, nothing serious.  Echocardiogram showed that one of the valves had a teeny bit of leaking, again nothing serious.  I got hold of my 2014 EKG and the various waves were so completely different between the two that both my psychiatrist and I were wondering if the leads were simply not in the right place for this one.

Again the Cardiologist can have a Device check completed if leads are a problem but so glad the diagnosis wasn't as serious as you may have thought.. that's always great news. I'm glad you have a good doctor. Prayers For you. Be well and Be Blessed!! 😇
