    Hi Beth,

One of the causes of high prolactin is due to a tumor on the pituitary gland called a prolactinoma. The tumor causes too much prolactin to be made. These tumors are often benign, which means they are NOT cancerous. There are other reasons why prolactin may be high, but your doctor is doing the correct thing to send you for an MRI to rule this out so try not to be overly worried, easier said than done I know! All the best to you and let us know how you get on.

Thank you for your kind words, this is a new thing for me i never heard or checked what it was before because it was normal , i do have thyroid nadoule in the right side, i have seen an endecrologist and he told me just to monitor in a year it is benign so im thinking it might be the reason ? the thing is since there is shortage of doctors the endocronologist appointment is in 6 month till then i will do the brain MRI and will see what the primary doctor say .

I'm not an expert/health professional but I believe that hypothyroidism can be a reason for prolactin to be too high. I'm not fully certain on why though. I'm assuming you have had blood tests to check your thyroid is working as it should be considering you have a nodule? It's not ideal having to wait so long for appointments as it only adds to the worry! I had some tests done last August. Whilst I do have the result from this and can't really fault my consultant, I'm still waiting on a follow up and have no further answers or treatment. It's frustrating. Hopefully your MRI appointment won't be too long away and you can get some reassurance from that. In the meantime, we are always here to listen to any concerns and offer some reassuring words.
