About Intrusive Thoughts and Anxiety. Some help needed.

I've been having a bout of anxiety and this time around, what I'm struggling with are the intrusive thoughts. And I find these the hardest symptom to deal with for me. The past few days, I've been learning to allow these thoughts to be and then moving on with my daily activities.

What I am worried about is that while I know anxiety causes intrusive/obsessive thoughts, what if I have OCD? I don't have any compulsions as to say but I do find myself ruminating these intrusive thoughts.

Or is this thought also just another "what if" intrusive thought caused by my anxiety?

it’s most likely another what if thought. However even if you did have OCD, it’s closely related to anxiety. there are people who have anxiety and along with that a mild case of OCD which is me. I’m not obsessively OCD but I will say for instance, make sure my stove is off before I leave the house or maybe check things two or three times. But that’s really about it. I can live my life normally.. I actually think the anxiety is worse than doing that.

many people with anxiety have a degree of OCD but that’s OK. That can be worked on between the person and a counselor.

rumination is part of anxiety and OCD. like I said, OCD can be very mild and hardly noticeable all the way to the other end of the spectrum which does not sound like you at all. Relax. Keep doing what you’ve been doing to lessen the anxiety. See a counselor if you have an already that should help. Take care
