I think it is because you are using your muscle differently also maybe with exercise you have been over doing it try resting it xx

I wonder if you have a slight leg length difference. Get someone to look at you from behind, in your undies, bare feet, flex both knees backward as far as you can go, . Is one hip at the waist higher than the other, if so you do have a leg length difference. You can have this proven by a Long Leg X-ray, not all clinics do it, you will have to hunt it out.  Once you know how much you will be be able to get a shoe lift insert, for the opposite foot, apparently we can adjust to the difference, its just that its isn't something we grew with, its caused by the surgery, apparently, we all have natural leg length differences, it just depends how much, you like me may not have even been aware of it. That may help relieve some of that feeling, pain. I know I have a  leg length discrepancy, I recognised something different the first time I stood up after THR, mine is 20mm or 3/4 inch, at the waist line, the problem is I also have a 10mm natural below my knee that was not taken into consideration during surgery,

    Hi dianne-

When did this pain started to bother you?

Do you have physical therapy ? It is very possible that you might be doing the exercises incorrectly and even the way you walk ?

I am saying this because my PT told me that I am a sloppy walker - I am 5 weeks post-op of 2nd THR ( 1st in March 2015) - I need to be more mindful of my posture, straightbody  but more relaxed in legs - apparenlty I was /am keeping my knees stiff and walk like Mrs. Frankenstein ... resulting in knee pain -

    How are you doing otherwise?

    warm big hug

    Hi diannec,

Yes, this sounds familiar. I don't get the ache but I do get soreness just above the knee on my operated leg. It feels tender to the touch as well.

So far it has not really troubled me. Surgeon did not seem surprised when I mentioned it before the op. I think all the other muscles have to work overtime to compensate for your hip joint muscles not working fully.

    Hugs

I had my surgery in the beginning of May and I have the ache/pull feeling above my knee when I stoop, or try to kneel. I think the muscle from the thigh to the knee is very tight and just needs to be worked out. Pt called it the Iliotibial band and my Quad muscles.

I am three months past LTKR and still get the pain above my left knee cap. Also sometimesthe quad will hurt for a short second if I use it in turning. My doctor said I had used all the wrong muscles in walking the last few years and now have to relearn to walk correctly. Awhile back I had to concentrate on every step I took to walk correctly. Of course I do have a smattering of arthritis in the left knee but not tha tmuch to cause pain. Hope this sheds some light for you.
