Absolutely no idea.

I took my script for Prednisone to the Chemist yesterday and noticed the instructions the GP had annotated on the script:   Take four tablets daily (5mgs) for one week, then decrease by one tablet per week.

I wonder what condition you'd be in after the four weeks?

I would get a second opinion.  Dropping down in dosage, that much, that quick, will probably just be a waste of your time.  Almost everyone I know of reduces by 1-2 mg a month from 20.  Doing what your GP suggests will put you where you are now and you will have to start all over again, hopefully slowly nest time.

I was on 20mg and reduced to 17.5mg over 7 weeks 3 days faster than the dead slow method and that was plenty fast. I'm on my first week of stabalizing.

Do not drop the way he is telling you to do.

I don't know about 4 weeks. I've been on 10mgs of Prednisone since October and saw my Rheumatologist the beginning of December. My bloodwork was good so I asked about tapering. He told me people typically stay on Prednisone for PMR for 6months to 3 years. 4 weeks seems kind of fast.

Listen to the old timers that have been through this many times

before....check back with your GP.   This is another example of

the fact that most doctors know little or nothing about PMR.

No one wants to begin at the beginning over and over again.

    GEEEZZZZZ!!!!!

I can see you one better. My GP started me at 60mg for 1 week, dropping to 40mg next week and 20mg week after. I figured he didn't know what he was doing and found someone else.

I am now down to 10mg for a month, then reducing by 1 mg per month. We will see how this works out. It's been a long haul working on reducing after starting so high. Many bad side affects at high doses.

I just started reducing.  I am paying close attention to my body and adjusting but still keeping it really slow just not quite dead slow.  I was at 10 mg and then 9.5 for about two weeks and now I am at 9 mg pred and will stay at this dose for a month then do the partial one day new, 6 days old dose dance.  I'm doing fine even after kayaking two days straight (December 13 and 14th it was in the 60's here in Michigan!).  From reading here I realized that what my rheumy told me was too fast and not going to work.  She gave me 1 mg pills I could cut in half thankfully.  I do still split my dose which also works for me.

    Hello Tony.

i'm in the same position as you. I live in a fairly rural part of Ireland and had to tell my Dr what I thought my problem is. I don't think he appreciated it esp. when I told him that I'd found a wonderful site that had oodles of info. He tried to phone the Rheumy to get some advise but to no avail. He gave me a prescription same as yours. 20 for a week lowering by 5 mg a week. I didn't say any thing as I have an appointment with the Rheumy on Jan 4th. Will get some better advise from them hopefully. Personally I think I should be on a slightly larger dose but we shall see. Bloody Drs eh? Hope you sorted soon and have a good Christmas.
