Accident prone?!

Hi All,

I've come to the conclusion that I'm my own worst enemy at the moment and seem to have gone back weeks in my recovery time.

I was doing fine for 6 weeks and tried to pick peas, and although nothing went ping, I couldn't put my foot on the ground the next day.

Just getting over that when I decided to stroll in the garden and put my one crutch on a slippery paving slab. The crutch went skidding off and I had to jam my leg down to save myself. And now I've put my recovery back yet again. So frustrating.

My physio says no exercises but rest until i see him on thursday. Which I will try to stick to. I do get bored though! But managed to make some cakes today as kind partner lined all the ingredients up on the worktop. So I achieved something!

Maybe I should be chained to the sofa - bit shades of grey though, eh?!

Hope all hippies are having a good day!

    Dear Anna,

    I avoid going in the garden because I know that I would try to pick things up, pull weeds away etc. forgetting my new hip...I know it's hard but we have to look after ourselves at the moment...I love gardening and I know that I would over do things;

Good luck with your recovery, have a good day

Heh, Anna, just go easy, girl!

I could scream when I look at all the things that need doing in house and garden, but we just have to accept that our new hips need looking after. There will be plenty of catch up time when we are fully fit. No way do I want to jeopardise all the hard work my surgeon has put in to getting me right, so I have to turn a blind eye to what wants doing. Easier said than done sometimes, but we do have to take care of ourselves.

So easy does it and just take care so that you don't set yourself back

    Have a lovely day

    Kindest wishes Linda xx

Oh dear Anna, what a shame, but we all get these knock-backs..... mine was standing for too long to watch the red arrows, couldn't move the next day so had a couple of days off. The biggest knock back was climbing into different taxis when Alan was in hospital accorfing to the physio that knocked me back two weeks.... You will pick it up again and think of the achievment you have made some cakes.... have alovely day and don't push yourself too hard.. Love Gill xxx

    Hi Annas

I am so sorry you are going through this.

May I suggest you phone your surgeon and request an x ray just to make sure there is no damage. Better safe than sorry

My garden is totally wild. I have not even cut the grass for over a year because I havn't been able too. So as a gardner may I suggest you leave it till next year. Yes it is more work to catch up on but weeds etc can wait. As for slipply paving slabs a jet washer will get rid of what ever is making them slippy. if you do not have one just invest in one. they are worth it.

I hope you feel better soon. x

I felt the same way.... it just takes longer than we expect to feel ourselves again.  I had bilateral surgery January 27th..... I went back to work in March and could get through the day but was exhausted by the end of the day ... finally started to feel myself around mid June --- I still try to be careful but am pretty much back to normal routines... my parents and brother were here this weekend and we cut up, rolled and stacked 3 major trees! A bit sore the next day but doing well

You will get there, but do listen to the doctor and be careful.... a friend said "you have ONE opportunity to heal properly, don't mess it up"  smile...

At this point I feel good and no more limp --- still get sore and am still trying to do the exercises from my PT

keep up the good work, be patient smile

Thanks for all your helpful replies!

Yes, I am now watching every step! Determined to behave myself in future. It's only another day before I see the physio, so shall see what he thinks I've done. Thankfully there's no pain when I'm in bed or on the sofa, so at least I can sleep OK. And as we all know, that means sooo much!

Fruit cakes, Renee, but its bread I really love making - with the help of my food processor!

    Thanks again?

I have arthritis and sciatica, but no replacements, I know how you feel about overdoing it, when my sciatica flares up I just do one or two chores and rest inbetween, then I get a pain free day, and I think woopee, and do too many chores, then suffer for 2 days afterwards, I even wrote a large note and pinned it to the kitchen cabinet reading PACE YOURSELF OR ELSE!, life eh!! Hope your improving.
