Accute Disc Spine Degeneration
Posted , 4 users are following.
Hello, I am new to this discussion and do not have any knowledge in medical field or on this matter.
My sister, who is 28 years old is dealing with Degenerate Disc Disease on her lower back spin. The disease makes her hard to walk and always in pain when she is sitting or walking. I really really want to help her. What I want to ask here is which country/hospital (outside the US) that has the best DDD therapy or treatment?
Thanks in advance,
Bayu

Whereabouts in the world are you? There are many places throughout the world with spinal specialists.
Here in the UK we have both Neurological and Orthopaedic Consultants who deal with spinal problems. From personal experience, I was lucky enough to be referred to Mr Edward Seel who has given me back my life back following major surgery 3 years ago. Like your sister, I was unable to stand, walk, sit or even lie without pain and it hugely impacts on your life - pain is very tiring! DDD will in all probability require surgical intervention to stabilise the spine and relieve the pain. Research the specialist services available wherever you are in the world. I wish you the best of luck in your search and hope that your sister gets the treatment needed to give her her life back and freedom from the pain.

Hello, Kimb63. Appreciated your reply.
We live in Indonesia but we feel that our medical expertise is not good enough to heal my sister's DDD. What I want to ask you is, is it possible for my sister's DDD to be treated without surgery? Maybe through therapy or other treatments? We are afraid since this is a spinal surgery there is a chance that she would end up being paralyze.
Cheers,
Bayu

Hi again Bayu.
I fully understand your concerns but with DDD there are no non-invasive therapies that I am aware of. Hydrotherapy to build core strength and maintain muscle definition. Perhaps Acupuncture for pain relief alongside some anti-spasmodic medications such as Gabapentin and an anti-inflammatory to reduce inflammation. With DDD as it gets progressively worse surgery will likely be necessary to prevent damage to the spinal cord. Surgery risks exist with any procedure relating to the spine but as these procedures become more commonplace throughout the world the risks are substantially reduced. Eventually you have to weigh up the risks and benefits as with DDD paralysis is also a possibility if nothing is done.
Sorry I cannot be of more help but I'm sure that Jakarta and other major centres throughout your beautiful country have fine surgeons, either Orthopaedic or Neurological, who have very high success rates with spinal procedures?! Good luck amd I hope your sister makes good progress in the future?
