Hello everybody, I hope you are all as well as can be. I had my endoscopy this morning. Dr Makin my gastroenterologist performed the test which was good for me as I have seen him before in 2014. It didn’t go as smoothly as I had hoped especially as 5 appointments for the endoscopy have been cancelled and, re scheduled since 3rd of January. I arrived at 9.15 prepped and, good to go. After sitting paitenly for over 2hrs one of the nurses came and, explained that they were unable to perform the colonoscopy as I had eaten at 6pm on the evening before??? I explained that I wasn’t there for a colonoscopy but, an upper endoscopy, I knew nothing about it. She said well we can’t do it today because you have not done the prep but, they would do the endoscopy. Another example of non communication between him and, the surgeons. I had a colonoscopy done 4 months ago so I was adamant that I would not go through that again.  Anyway long story short I spoke with Dr Makin and, brought him up to speed. He said it was a very badly written referal from Mr Goldsmith as he had also been asked to try a dilation?? So he suggested that I should t have it today as he would have to do quite a large stretch in my case but, he would not do it under sedation and, he would need to reschedule and, I would have it done under a general anaesthetic. When he fully understood what was happening and, I stood to to show him my very impressive tummy the situation took a turn. He said the pain and, the destention of my abdomen is not being caused from the oesophagus itself but, the sphincter area and, lower down to my stomach. He was very concerned by this stage and, said right let’s do it, no dilation I need to see what’s happening. You are clearly very poorly and, I would like to admit you as this is something you can’t manage at home. I declined the offer of being admitted as I see my surgeon on Tues and, explained that I had been this poorly for almost 5 weeks now and, I would be more comfortable at home to which he eventually conceded. He then did the endoscopy and, took some biopsies and, he will be arranging to attend the appointment on Tuesday as well. There were no nastie surprises thankfully 😅 which is such a relief as you can imagine. So I wait until Tuesday now to see what all this nonsense is ha ha, dialatation and, colonoscopies?? He wants an urgent scan doing and, has advised me that although very short notice could be as early as tomorrow or, Monday so i am just waiting for a call to tell me when. From my point of view it will be a relief to see them both at the same time on Tuesday and, get a lot of my questions answered as it’s beginning to feel all consuming trying to even attempt to second guess their next move and, once I have them together in the same room I will leave them with nowhere to hide 😂 that is for sure. Enjoy a happy weekend and, if any of you are as unfortunate to be under 8” of snow, bitterly cold winds and, ice, stay warm and, safe 😊

It sounds very sensible that he did the endoscopy and took biopsies.   Sometimes the referral letter does not tell the whole story does it!   And perhaps the scan will tell them more about what is going on.  Glad that things are now taking place at a good speed.

Yes I am pleased they are both on the same page so to speak and, things are moving once again. It’s been unfortunate that the endoscopy has to be cancelled 5 times as I think you get a little lost in the system and, becomes difficult to access your consultant. Hopefully all back on track now

Sounds like action at last! Its a shame the grief you had to go through to get their attention... Seems to be the way sometimes... Times are testing at the moment.. Good to see things moving in the right direction!!!

Sounds like the specialist you had today, is 'listening' and really on the ball.  Good that you will have the information you need by next Tuesday.  I'm scheduled to have another Manometry test, for next week.  The surgeon wants to see inside, as he put it, 'all the angles of the muscle.'  My second dilation, in January, did not work.   [my Heller M. was done in 2016].

Hi Donna, yes it’s moving in the right direction again thankfully. The manametry swallow is really the best isn’t it in allowing them to see what is working and, what isn’t. I’m so sorry to hear your dialatation was unsuccessful. It’s so disappointing isn’t it, it’s an awful blow when your hopes are up. Having the manametry test will give them more options I’m sure. I had two dialatations many years ago between surgery’s and, they did not work so I understand just how disappointing it is. I hope your manametry goes well. Take care x
