Sounds like you've been slightly unlucky but if you read through this forum you'll see that we all have different symptoms, before and after our operations.

I had Heller's myotomy almost 30 years ago and although I was much better afterwards I wasn't totally cured. Occasionally I have problems swallowing but it depends more on how hungry I am and how relaxed I am, rather than the type of food. Nevertheless it's wise for me to avoid foods like apples, lettuce, mushrooms - things that don't easily break up even after moderate chewing. Occasionally I get acid reflux but, so far, it's not been a major problem (touch wood).

Sorry, my case isn't much like yours but I thought it might be useful to know that an operation doesn't always mean a 100% cure.

Steven, my acid reflux has never been severe and, when it does occur, only occurs at night when I'm in bed. The only thing I do to keep it in check is keep my weight down although diet does help too - spicy food aggravates the problem, for example. But I think it would be best to hope that someone else with a more severe acid reflux problem replies to your queries. (Actually I think I noticed that there is a separate acid reflux forum here).
