aches and pains all over the body

I am 51yrs old, and a woman born and brought up in Kenya till I was 29rs old when I moved to Uk with my husband (1994)

Since I was little I have found it very difficult to wear shoes(yet I have a huge passion for shoes)

lf I wore high heels or tight fitting shoes my feet ache (always did), I have therefore resulted to wearing soft kind of trainers shoes for work which is most embarrassing, I have been able to use trainers for running without pain, I even ran for race for life 5k and 10k a few years back

5yrs ago I went to the doctors believing I had a bunion on my big right toe-it was swollen and a little painful, and bent and faced outwards

One look at the toe and GP was convinced it wasn't a bunion but arthritis, she sent me for xrays which confirmed the diagnosis, I was prescribed Naproxen

Although at first I was distraught, I got over it and continued to exercise gently and run, this did not hurt much, I even stopped taking tablets prescribed to help with pain as I was able to manage and found the right balance so I exercised just the right amounts and the right ways

4yrs ago I developed back pain, it was on one side of the back, and not in the spine but on muscles near the lumber/cocyx region, GP sent me to physiotherapy, in the first session I went home feeling like a different person, pain had gone and I was able to walk upright, i did the exercises I was given but felt some were making it worse and as I was unable to figure out which ones were not working as well as they should have done I stopped, I went back to physiotherapy but was unable to have the same person I had on my first visit, I never got on with the one I saw next time, I stopped going but continued to exercise at home, slowly the pain has got less but not completely gone.

When pain continued to subside I started running again, I ran into work(5miles) every morning, work on my feet all day and walked back home, until early last year when I began to feel pain in my feet, not fatigue from the running but pain on the bottom of feet, on the skin, I would run into work, spend about 25mins stretching and warming down and that was enough to keep me feeling okay, then this pain began and no matter how long I warmed down the moment I stopped running about at work and sat down, I would be in great pain the moment I stood on my feet again, I was okay as long as I was walking about, if I sat down on computer for say 30mins I would be in agony the moment I began to walk again

Around summer time last year 2015 I stopped running to see if my feet would stop paining, I began to exercise in my house dancing shaking bending squatting sit ups for an hour daily. This worked well and I was happy although I missed running

About 2 months ago pain from exercise started lingering on for longer than usual, I would be in pain in my waist knees feet back.....just the whole body instead of recovering after exercises I would still be in pain (dull ache like i am exhausted), I had to take paracetamol just to feel normal, I stopped exercising hoping to give the body a chance to recover but up to this moment I hurt, it is only just a dull ache but I have done nothing to strain the body for over a month now and I still ache

The pain now (although not excruciating) is in my toes, fingers, back , feet, the right leg feels a little numb so I have to drug it a little bit (but not always)

In the last five years I have had to stop running and exercising completely and yet I still feel pain, is it going to get worse? Will I end up in a wheel chair or bed bound? There is something very wrong in my body and although at the moment there is no much evidence especially from an onlooker I am very worried

I would like to know if there is anything I could do to help myself, is ignoring it making it worse and more advanced so treating becomes harder

My parents in kenya have had a good healthy lives even though my mum had 11 children in very difficult circumstances she has enjoyed a relatively good life, she is in her mid 70s, my dad died at 84, healthy as could be, none of them have had arthritis

Something else about me, I went through menopause at 48, no symptoms just periods stopped, no hot flashes

I did not have morning sickness with my son, nor did I ever suffer mood swings all my life

I know my problem seems small compared to some peoples' but it worries me every day, every aspect of my life and life expectations have altered and the future looks bleak, hope you are able to suggest something

thank you

    Hi Rose

Has your doctor check your thyroid??

I would also ask about Fibromyalgia as it causes pain all over and fatigue..

Of course I will keep you informed, sorry to hear about your pains, to other people it may appear as attention seeking if you keep mentioning it so I just keep it to myself, but I empathise with you as I know just how it limits how you enjoy your life, hope you get to the bottom of your situation soon

Thanks Laura, just sharing is wonderful
