Achilles rehab advice

Hi all, ruptured my Achilles just before xmas. Had surgery, was in plaster for 8weeks then boot for 6weeks. Have been out of boot for almost a week and finding my ankle is very sore. Been stretching my Achilles with very little pain but all the pain is on the inside of my ankle. Having a lot of trouble bending then ankle as it feels very tight and stiff. Is this normal and will it get better over time.

Thanks.

Time , patience and therapy don't rush it. Been 7 months for me just started running or light jogging.

    Hi Leroy

Yes, it sounds normal. Everyone is different. I'm now 6 months post op and had plaster and boot the same as you. It's taken this long to be able to walk properly as I still don't have full strength in the calf or anywhere near a full stretch in the Achilles/calf.

Initially it felt like I had a clamp around my ankle and lower calf as everything was so stiff and immobile. It will loosen and stretch but you must do lots of mobility and stretch exercises. And then calf raises to build up the calf muscle again.

Like I said, I'm now 6 months post op and have just started bouncing and jogging on a trampette. I'm still a good 2-4 months away from proper jogging or jumping around.

Be patient and do your exercises. It will get better!

Hi, thanks for the advice. Sounds as though patience and plenty of stretching/exercises is what's needed.
