Achilles Rupture and Recovery Process

Blew Achilles March 24, 2018 playing volleyball on hard surface. Heard a pop, like someone claped their hands next to me, and then felt like somebody had just kicked me in the back of the calf. I limped off the court and had a friend look at my ankle. He said it appeared to be an Achilles tendon rupture. That is what I thought. I felt like I was going to pass out from the pain. I had my wife immediately drive me to the emergency room, which took about 20 minutes. By the time I got to the emergency room it did not feel as painful and I did not feel like I was going to pass out. Was told I had an ankle sprain, and was placed in a boot. I knew better. Followed up with primary physician one week later after no recovery progress. During this one week between the emergency room and my primary physician I did not have much pain. Was able to FWB in boot. Since I was still working, I managed to drive back and forth to work a few times by wrapping ankle in ace bandage and tightly lacing up heavy work boot. Walked on heal of foot since there was zero strength on ball. During primary physician visit, she and a physical therapist did Thompson test and both felt it was a achilles rupture. Referred me to ankle specialist that I saw 4 days later. Specialist diagnosed full rupture and recommended surgery. I had surgery 6 days later, which by this time was 2 weeks 2 days after initial rupture. I am currently in a splint wrapped fairly tight and should get it removed tomorrow (2 weeks after surgery) Once the nerve block wore off about 24 hours after surgery, I felt some pins and needles as if my leg had fallen asleep but this did not feel too bad. The worst part since then is just trying to find a comfortable position with my leg up due to the incisions. It kind of has a burning sensation if I rest on it. 2 nights after surgery I woke up to some fairly strong throbbing pain. Not sure if I stretched my leg while I was asleep, but it hurt pretty good for a couple hours afterwards. I've had to stay fairly mobile since the surgery due to having two kids and a busy life. I have used a knee scooter and crutches to get around. 100% zero driving. Try to keep leg elevated whenever I am sitting. Feels like some swelling if I move around a lot. Was told I will be in boot for up to 6 more weeks, but not if I can help it. Not when PT starts. Will post more after splint is removed and back into boot.
