Achilles surgery & recovery

I am six weeks post-op for an Achilles repair, Achilles lengthening and repair to tendons in my ankle. I have been non-weight bearing for the past 6 weeks. Unlike others, I did not tear mine playing sports. I tore mine walking down the hall at work. It was the result of inflamed planters fasciitis complicated by a heel spur that grow into my Achilles. It has been an extremely painful recovery so far. Ice has been my best friend. At five weeks, my doctor encouraged me to start making shapes in the air with my foot. At six weeks, he had me start walking. This is not easy. How did it feel when you started walking again?
I have read so many discussions about people walking PWB in like 4 weeks but I realize most of those people were very athletic and I am not at all. I was just wondering about other peoples experiences. Am I the only one that is struggling to put FWB at 6 weeks.

Hi Momamizell
Sounds to me that you should see your doctor about a physio.I think exercises are the best starter for you.I am a complete rupture and find that it's a slow process to get rid of the stiffness and tightness.I imagine you will feel the same. Don't over do it and take care. M.

Hey Mark A,
Thanks for your response. I have talked to my doctor but he is vague. I don't want to over do it but I don't want to be wimpy either. Before starting physio he wants me to be FWB and have more range of motion. He doesn't think I would be able to tolerate too much pulling and tugging yet.
I was just wondering if I am the only person in this boat. When I step, I can feel the hurt all the way into my butt check especially behind the knee. I also have a LOT of ankle pain. I walked a good bit yesterday and today I want to cry my muscles are screaming. My leg is throbbing.
Oh my goodness, I really don't mean to sound like a whiner. I guess I just wanna know from others who have gone through this that their recovery was similar so I am sharing specifics. I mean is this all normal recovery. How did it feel when you started taking steps?

Momamizell.
I wouldn't get too worried about how it is going.Everyone is different and it's going to take patience and time.Today I went and bought a good pair of
trainers as I am just out the boot.I put them on straight away from the shop and felt good, just had slight discomfort. After about half an hour I felt really sore and went home to put my foot up,in fact that's what I'm doing now as I write lol.
I was told hardly anyone gets back to full normality after these injuries and can take best part of a year.Just take it as it comes and don't make things worse by feeling anxious.
