Achilles Tendon

hello All! Just wondered if anyone on here has trouble with their Achilles Tendon?? First thing after resting a while and if I've walked far too much they get very very stiff and painful! There doesn't seem much flexibility in either ankles. I didn't have problems with them when I was first diagnosed with PMR, only now 10 months into the condition and in 7mg of pred!!

But that was a phase that lasted just a month or two, much like the sore soles of my feet that lasted three months.
And each of these symptoms just came along on their own, in some seemingly random sequence. I've had no foot or shin issues for over a year now, only issues with ribcage/shoulder area, my thumb joint and not being able to sleep through the night due to earache if I use too low of a dose of pred as I taper (now below 5mg/day).
Due to the migrating nature of pmr symptoms, one must constantly adapt to what kinds of exercise are still possible, no matter how boring such forms of exercise might be at times. I try to get some bike riding, jogging or light weight-lifting in twice per day, whatever my condition and the weather permit!

Probably your PMR made them prone to be easily injured, too.
To ask your doc about long walks now and a prescription for a cream to rub would be a good thing to do.
Recently got a pain along the side of my left hand and wrist.
The fear of a weakness of my bones because the Pred led me to see my Internist who precribed a cream to rub and in few days the pain and my fear were both gone...
Hope you get the help your tendons are in need now.
Get well.

The other question is whether you have been on any antibiotics, in particularly quinolones (whose names end in -oxacin). Pred on its own can also lead to inflammation of the achilles tendon but in combination with these antibiotics the risk is higher.
Do get it checked out because if you have an inflamed achilles tendon it makes it quite delicate and it can get damaged more easily if you trip or go over on your ankle.
I had it 3 years ago, quite badly, and needed crutches for some time to give it a chance to rest.

I had a difficult year, I was so frightened, when I had the tempory sight loss,
i had never heard of this illness before,
I was down to 10mg pred from (80mg ) but went back to 12.5 pred because of neck pain and CRP went up a little, CRP is down again but neck pain is still there,
i've had neck pain for a couple of months ( it's how my symptoms started in January )
but strange it goes as day goes on don't feel it's muscular.
but feel ok besides all side effects of pred,
but can't complain I even made the trip to Cayman is to see my daughter,
she had a beautiful baby girl last May.
hope your keeping well Eileen.
and thanks to everyone else on this site. I'm so grateful
just want to wish everyone a happy Christmas and happy new year (painless)

two weeks ago my big toe hurt as if I stubbed it. I had this same thing right before I was diagnosed with PMR (1 year ago) Thought it was gout, but doctor said no and didn't have an answer.
Then a week ago my Achilles hurt! I was feeling really good one day (finally after months of fatigue), so I jogged maybe 20 seconds worth, I was so excited, but few days later aches and painful throbbing in my Achilles. Ugh! Then in my other foot's big toe! But went away after few days. Didn't make sense to me.
This PMR is crazy. I've been indulging, actually craving sweets, so I've eaten some slices of holiday pie. Thinking that's causing my inflammation to raise perhaps.
so... I'm back to anti inflammation diet darn it.
im trying to hold at 6 mg Pred. And on Plaquinel and Sulfasalazine. I don't see them doing anything yet. I think Bowen helped my back. My Bowen gal worked my calves and toes last week, but big toe on one foot still hurts so much I limp to walk. I'm guessing it's the blood vessels in my tendons.
I wanted to walk for exercise so bad today since I now have osteoporosis, but have watched Christmas movies instead.
hope your Achilles pain subsides as mine has.
