Achilles tendon complete rupture

Hey guys... I suffered from a complete rupture 8 weeks ago... Wore a solid cast for 6 weeks after the surgery..then started physical therapy since a week ago... Now I can walk without the aid of the crutches... But still limping on my injured leg a little. ... Still Can't stand on my toes which I think is causing the Limp as I find the take offs abut tricky.... Going upstairs is a challenge but I think it improves... Going downstairs though is a bit hard... Did anyone recently had the same procedures to be fully back?

hi
yes and you will not be able to stand on your toes for a while. Follow physio advice and do the exercises but DO NOT overdo it otherwise rehab will take longer and in the worst case you could rupture it again. I was told 9-12 months to get back to pre op and i thought they were joking. I'm 5 months in and have concluded the timescale is probably right

Hi andrew
I am doing that plus trying to walk in the streets for a while to strengthen my take offs..
What did you do to build up strength in your calf area by week 8...I know that standing on my toes will be a hard thing... But I still Limp because my take offs aren't strong enough to support a healthy walking ? Did you do any special exercises?

Walking is as good as anything at the moment for you. I was told to concentrate on walking from heel to toe and pushing off on the ball of your foot as this helps the extension but slowly not quick and this should reduce the limp.
A wobble board is really good and you can pick them up for next to nothing. Try to balance and raise each arm in turn. It certainly gets the calf muscles working...

Those actually the same words of my physio... Specially the push ups and concentrating on them...
I also find it a it tricky to wear a decent shoes because of the swelling... How did u solve that.... And is the swelling still present after 5 months of your surgery?
One other thing... Did you try MRI or Thompson test after the surgery?

i just wore loose trainers. i didnt have much swelling just a lump where the scar tissue was but was advised to massage the area every day for 10 mins using an oil rub to help break down the swelling as ling as its not too painful. No MRI - after 5 months i can do most everyday things but no running jogging of course
