Aching & throbbing calf

Me again...

I've had an aching left calf on & off for the last few days.  THR 4 1/2 weeks ago, my left leg.  Last night tonight for blood thinner injection. My paranoid brain is saying this isn't good.  I've been very active this last week as I've been back to work walking around heaps with my stick. My calf isn't swollen or red.  It just really aches and kind of throbs.  Impossible to get to see a GP so I'm wondering if I should go to my local hospital tomorrow.  I had my surgery done in Sydney but I Iive in a coastal town about 600 km from Sydney. Have my leg elevated & rotating my foot & flexing & pointing.  Any thoughts?

    Hi

If there is no redness or swelling then probably isn't a blood clot although if you are concerned it would be good to have it checked if only to put your mind at rest.

I am 6 weeks post op and have had this. Not sure if you've seen the post from Peggy on ITband but sounds more likely to be that as you've been more active lately. It's quite early to be back at work where you do a lot of walking !!!! I rested more and my pain went away. Just try resting as even at work they should take account of your situation and ensure you don't overdo it. If it is your ITband and you continue to overdo it you could have to be off work for 3 weeks.

You are obviously doing well but please be kind to yourself. Read that post as vety informative x

Hi I'm of the same opinion, I went DR's once and she stood me up felt all round calf, no reaction pain, not hard and not red, she said rest it and it went off.

If your really worried ring hospital, why don't you have a Dr near by

I work for myself as a personal trainer.

I live in rural & coastal part of Australia & getting to see a GP is hard.

If you work for yourself then you should find it easier to time your activities so you don't overdo it. Earnings are important but not at an unbearable cost to our health in my opinion.

Your doing the best thing, I'm thinking its probably just a muscle strain but better safe than sorry, have you had cramp lately

You were right Alexandria, no swelling &  no redness. Surgeon said part of the process of strengthening up in my case. He said good to be aware & get his opinion whenever I need.

Because of botched surgery last year I'm hyper-vigilant now!

That's just what you needed to hear, but always best to get it checked because ignorance is not always bliss.

Now you can chill and continue improving daily

It strikes me that you have simply been overdoing it and or your muscles are not good enough yet.  Suggest rest and doing your exercises to get the muscles really good so that you can walk with a good gait.   If you limp it means that you need to use both sticks.

    Good luck.  Richard

Hi there, I can only say, if in doubt you must see someone just in case. I would visit the hospital even if it's just to put your mind at rest. Good luck.
