Aciclovir - is it really bad for you?

Hi there, whenever I have a break and contact my doctor about it, I'm prescribed Aciclovir 200mg and have to take it five times a day for five days. My recent outbreak was a fierce one and didn't clear up after the five days, so I carried on for another four days. So in total, since being diagnosed six weeks ago, I've taken a total of 19 days worth - 95 tablets!!
Should I be cautious about taking these tablets? I try to treat my HSV-2 holistically, but the tablets (at the moment) seem to be the only thing that nip it in the bud effectively.

I have HSV-2 and during my recent pregnancy I was advised to take acyclovir to minimize the risk of an outbreak near/during labour so I could have a natural delivery, I had never taken it before in all the 5 years of having GH, I'm pretty anti drugs unless I'm in dire need and I obvioulsy was wanting my baby to be born healthy no matter what, so I took it for about 8 weeks before he was born, I must admit it worked wonders for me, I was used to suffering outbreaks back to back and I too eat healthy food mostly but do enjoy the morning coffee and the odd choc bar here and there, but the drug stopped my outbreaks completely and I could eat what I wanted, the only problem with the drug was it nailed my kidneys, my urine was so dark and strong smelling (sorry, I know its not very attractive) I knew it was no good for my body but I didn't want to risk my baby catching herpes as they can die from it, so in a way I was grateful for the drug but I wouldn't take it without good reason, if you are able to I would avoid it unless need be.
Since having my son, I stopped taking the drug (I breastfeed him and can't take it while doing so) I would have probably continued to do so until my stiches healed (the joys of motherhood lol) incase I got an outbreak and they spread. Now since somebody on these forums mentioned eating fresh pineapple everyday stopped them from having outbreaks I have been doing that and I have to admit it has worked for me, I have noticed if I skip a day or two I do get an outbreak but if I stick to eating it everyday without fail I don't get an outbreak, I buy two organic pineapples a week it costs me over £30 a month but its worth it.
