Acid/bile reflux after cholecystectomy?

Posted , 2 users are following.

Hi I had gallbladder surgery about a month ago and soon after I start feeling like acid was coming to my throat and irritating it. My GP thought it was excess of acid so he prescribed me lansoprazole. After two weeks I still don't feel much improving of my symptoms. I still wake up with sour taste in my mouth, have horrible heartburn and some indigestion. I eat a very low fat diet, I did anyway before surgery so it cannot be due to what I eat. I also did a endoscopy which was normal. I just want to know if anyone has or had this issues after this surgery only and if there is other exams that can be done to find the cause. My GP told me to carry on taking the ppi until I can get an appointment with a GI doctor. I hope it can improve.

    Leni,

When they do surgery your abdominal organs are manipulated and moved around.

    Gas is common after surgery.

Have you tried over the counter antacids?

Are you over weight or have a large abodmen?

    Did they give you antibiotics?

You might want to begin with a probiotic or fermented foods to build up your normal abdominal flora.

      Hi Dreaming

GP prescribed  lansoprazole which I've been taking for 2 weeks. I am not overweight. And I start taking a probiotic two days ago. No antibiotics.

      Leni,

Sounds like what you are experiencing is related to surgery, but you knew that.

If possible, do whatever else you can do like probiotics and other natural ways to get your digestive health back on tract.

It's difficult to get off of PPI which you were prescribed for most people.

Seeing a Gastro doctor is an excellent idea.

Did a Gastro doctor do your surgery or an general surgeon? Have you seen them about your symptoms?

I am interested in hearing what you find out.

It was an emergency operation due to pancreatitis, and the doctor was I think a  gastro specialist.  He didn't follow up with me. I went to my GP.

thank you so much for your advice. It has been more difficult to deal with all of this because I have a 3 month old baby and I need to get better Asap.

      Bless you Len,

You have been on an adventure for sure.

A baby delivered 3 months ago and a surgery one month ago.

May an immediate healing come your way.

I hope your appointment is soon.

Please write back and share with us your findings on this post.

Stopp ppi they will cause you more harm than good. Mix a teaspoon of sugar in 3 tablspoon of water and swallow it when you feel this acid it will supress the acid as sugar reduces acid..no chocolate either. Try using mints after eating.
