Acid Reflux & HH can it be difficult to determine

Apologises for being someone else asking this question.
I ask because I recently had an endoscopy and was informed that I did have acid reflux and my stomach was inflamed but they could not tell me why. I just have to continue taking my daily dose of 30mg Lansoprozone and see what happens in the future.
What is concerning me is that even having raised my bed head I am still waking up during the night
With pains in my throat.
So could this be due to an undetected HH.

I had an endoscopy a few months ago which revealed a large hiatus hernia and mild gastritis.
I have a constant sore throat and I don't know why. I suspect it is because of acid reflux due to my large hiatus hernia, but I had a PH study, which showed no abnormal levels of acid in oesophagus.
I asked my gastrologist why I have a constant sore throat and he said it could be because of bile and other stomach contents leaking into my oesophagus (not just acid). I'm due to have an impeadance study tomorrow to see if I have other reflux (not just acid).
Let me know if you find out why.
Kind Regards
Uriel

I take it they have tested you for h.pylori? Also you can get relux if your lower oesphogeal sphinchter is weak - if you have a hiatus hernia it is more likely - but you can get this without the hernia issues! Have they referred you to gastroenterologist? You could ask for a manometry test and 24 hous ph test - these will tell you how much reflux you are getting - and also tells how well you swallow reflex and LOS works.

I have got to get another prescription tomorrow so I will mention what you have said to the doctor. I cannot help but think they are just trying not to spend any money.
Thanks Ted

If you can try and find out more about the endoscopy - something must have caused your stomach to be inflamed! As for the reflux - think the ph test is the only way to see how often and how much acid is being refluxed.

Every night before i go to bed i am now taking a dose of Gaviscon but even with that I am getting mild tingling in my throat and a pain in my stomach so something must be happening. My wifes not very happy because I have even raised our bed at the head board as recommended.
I shall make the points you told me of when I see my doctor tomorrow and I will let you know how I get on Regards Ted

Well I went to see the doctor and not a lot happened really. Why is it that as soon as you sit down with your doctor he seems to want to get you out the door.
After asking him the questions you suggested his response basically was no everything is OK its just something that can happen to people of your age.I am 64.So no hope for people of my age and older then when we get I'll. Because I am struggling to get a good nights sleep in addition ri the Lansop... he as now also given me Ranitidine. Which I am not happy about as its yet another drug going into my body.
It seems to mW now that the o ly hope I have is that the drugs make life more tolerable and my condition does not get worse. If I can continue to ride my motorbike and cycle then life will not be too bad.regards Ted

I think the doctors only start to listen or do more checks if the meds don't work. I started of on lansoprazole, then pantoprazole - but both had bad side effects for me - and I am on ranitidine 300mg twice a day - they aren't ideal either - but don't make me feel as bad as the PPI's.
I think you have to give the meds a try - it takes a while for you to feel the benefit - some people find they work a treat - for me it's not the case and I am on the waiting list for fudoplication surgery.
At least neither of these tablets will stop you enjoying your motorbike or cycle! :-)

Sorry to read you had trouble with the meds and as you say they are worth a try. I hope that you dont have to wait too long for surgery.
