ACID REFLUX - Lump in throat

Posted , 6 users are following.

Boy this illness just seems to get worse on a daily basis. Today I have a lump in my throat and for weeks I have been scratching my neck. I am not sure whether that is a reaction to the lanso and ranitidine I am taking.

I am being very careful about what I eat and today I have only had porridge with banana and sultanas.I have had several cups of tea which I am loathe to give up because apart from water its the only thing I drink.

Any clues there about why I have this problem.

if you have started taking calcium supplements recently then it's probably that.

Steve I haven't started taking what you suggest but I am wondering now whether taking glucoassamine sulphate for years prior to getting this problem helped to cause it. Ted

glucosamine sulphate doesn't cause acid reflux but calcium carbonate , Tums, gaviscon, and most ant-acids can and do cause it. For me they are terrible. Why? These ant-acids hit the stomach and cause dramatically lower acid. Then the dumb organs below say, HEY! It's too alkaline, make more acid, make lots more acid and hey Preston - acid reflux.

i am just recovering from calcium supplement, calcium carbonate, nearly killed me!

Solution, give up all ant-acids and drink a can of coca cola every day until the tummy rebalances it's acids properly. The cola contains phosphoric acid which works like magic.

its called acid rebound if you want to google it.

Hi I am beginning to realise that this illness causes a lot of strange symptoms. I have been on esomeprazole for over 8 years and went from tablets to capsules 40mg per day, earlier this year GP asked me to reduce to 20mg and put me back on tablets as they are stronger, I have been getting this lump sensation and what I can only describe as a raw achy feeling inside down the oesophogus sternum area which makes me want to cough. What I have been trying is taking the tablet later in the day after my main meal rather than first thing in the morning and this seems to have calmed things down and lump sensation is hardly there just on occasions. I have to stress that I have taken capsules for many year without this feeling and not really sure it is the tablets, just seems weird and wondering with them being bigger are they are getting stuck before they melt, if you know what I mean. I do remember years ago having stratching but that soon went away.

Hi, I have the lump and throat clearing issue and also an inflamed osophogus x have you had a scope lately? Be changed my diet (already on low fomap so no wheat dairy or fructose) but now low acid, no tomatoes, onions, garlic, peppers, spices or chips or sausages or cyme fatty food including meat. I've dropped crisps too. Drinking mainly water, no caffeine and cut right back on alcohol ( occasions only) x also taking a pro biotic and a spoon of gaviscon extra before bed and gargling with bicarb. Give it a go x

    Hi there,

I have this lump in throat or Globus Sensation for 2 mos now on and off. It is usually triggered by stress or as they say it is worsened by anxiety. You can watch on youtube Laryngopharyngeal Reflux Beaumont Medical Education if you have spare time. You can find relief by applying warm compress to the area and tilting your head up in the air like trying to kiss the roof as far as you can and bend your head on the right side hold for 10 secs repeat on the left.I might consider traditional chinese medicine or accupuncture in chinese they call this Plum Pit Qi.I also found out that there could be an imbalance in the liver .Vitamin and mineral deficiencies.I am currently taking vit b12 and st john wort for nerves.I have several posts about this looking for some answers as well.there are days that it is  so intense and making me feel worse, anxious and depressed.

Hope this helps and take care for now.
