Acid reflux post-cholecystectomy

Hi has anyone experienced acid reflux after gallbladder surgery? I've been having this horrible heartburn and pain in my chest since surgery with nausea, and my GP thinks is acid reflux so he prescribed me a PPI ( first pantopraxole 40 mg and then lansoprazole 30 mg) But it has not yet improve any of my symptoms. How long until it can make any effects?

It shouldn't take too long to take effect.  I have found that certain foods trigger reflux for me (sadly, coffee is one).  Eating smaller portions and remaining upright help.  Perhaps it is not reflux though.  I would keep in contact with your doctor.  Can you get a GI specialist?

Hi I am not eating much at all, soups and smoothies because I get indisgestion as well. My GP is arranging another app to see a GI. I hope is not something else like bile that's causing this reflux.

I had my operation in July and since then have only had a few bouts of heartburn. Before the operation I had it almost non-stop. However, since the operation, I have changed my eating habits a lot. I try to eat a low fat diet now and I have also noticed that I no longer want to eat as much meat. I don't know if it is the change in diet or the operation. I am not saying I do not have heartburn at all, but I would say that since the op I can count on my fingers the number of instances and that each of these has been much easier to alleviate. Prior to the op I had several different meds prescribed and I also used the OTC liquids to help - but they never reallly worked.

Try to cut down on red meat - I think that has helped me.

I don't eat red meat at all. I only been eating fruit smoothies and soups. That is why I think it was due to the op because i ve never had issues with stomach acid or heartburn before. Thanks anyway for your advice. I appreciate it.

Hi Tammi When I had my gallbladder removed in the first days I just very tired and with a little bit of pain  where the gallbladder was but nothing I couldn't stand. Your body needs time to adjust to a missing part. You just need a lot of rest so do allow yourself at least in the two first to three weeks plenty of that. It has been a month since my surgery, I still feel that I need to take it easy. I think the liver needs at least two months to heal itself and get used to not rely anymore on a reservoir.

i wish you all best of luck for your surgery.
