Hi mjhollywood, we are all different, but I now know where the PMR pain strike me in my legs, arms and shoulders. If I have been out riding the bicycle and have pain in my butt that not PMR pain, but cycling pain. The same thing is true for shoulder pain, if I have been doing something that could cause shoulder pain, my first thing is to take ibuprofen. I try to think of what I have done that could have caused the pain. I been mostly PMR pain free since last June, with the exception of a few minor flares. I stay very active and positive, eat an anti-inflammatory diet, which I think all helps. Good luck on your PMR journey. And smile! ☺️

A flare is a return of symptoms as you had at the beginning - it can either be due to reducing your dose of pred too far or too fast or it can be due to an increase in the activity of the underlying autoimmune disorder.

Stiffness in the morning is normal to some extent since the body sheds a new batch of inflammatory substances every morning about 4am - until the pred takes effect you will be stiff and probably sore. For some people it is so bad they split their pred and take some later in the day to carry over its effect to the morning. Stiffness after being inactive for any length of time is also a symptom in PMR - sometimes it remains despite the dose but it should be improved when you are on the correct dose of pred.

I have heard people speak of an anti-inflammatory diet.  What exactly is that?  Can you point me toward an article or site that gives details?

      Thanks!

Type in anti inflammatory diet into Google and you should get lots of info. There are also books on diets too if you go to Amazon to check.

Hi jeannecatlover, I think you will find a wealth of information on the internet. My wife and I started with all organic and wild caught fish. No chicken, eggs or dairy, she has modified our diets over the past year to fit our life style. It all started for us because she suffered with debilitating migraines. Three days after starting the diet her migraines stopped. Has the diet helped me, I don't know, my I am PMR pain free doing DSNS taper and not going off the diet to find out. If you want more specific information send me a private message. Good luck, stay active rode my bike 23.8 miles yesterday, positive and try to smile. ??
