Activity restriction after diagnostic laparoscopy and vaginal cyst removal.

Hello.

I've just done a diagnostic laparoscopy and a removal of a cyst in my vagina.

The leaflet I got said to avoid this in the first 6 weeks after surgery (I have to translate it from Norwegian):

  • heavy lifting more than 5 kg
  • heavy chores (washing floors, vacuuming).
  • hard exercise like aerobic and similar
  • Activities that provoke pain
  • Constipation and straining that can destroy the result of the surgery
  • Intercourse

In addition it says this:

For some time after the surgery it might be necessary to limit heavy activities that put a strain on pelvic floor and abdominal muscles.

I did do quite some activities the first days, like bending down and stretching, lifting light things, minor household chores, doing sit-ups to get in and out of bed.

I did have pain, but they were activities that were hard to avoid. I used pain killers. I didn't have a plan made up before hand on how to deal with household chores and cooking after this.

How do I know if I have caused some damage by excessive activity?

Now I'm on the 7th day after my surgery. I still have pain in the pelvis around where the incisions where made.

Is squatting to pick up things and doing sit-ups to get out of bed as well as cooking and light household chores ok at this time?

The information I got is a little vague. I don't know what they mean with heavy activities that put a strain on pelvic floor and abdominal muscles. As far as activities that provoke pain, that would be many activities for me as just moving provokes pain in the areas where the incisions where made.

I also have a very swollen lower abdomen.

My left labia majora has fallen asleep 5 + times a day after the surgery. This was the symptom that sort of caused me to get this surgery, and it's 10 times worse now, so I'm a little down about that. I hope that it's swelling causing some compression or temporary irritation and not a sign of some damage caused by the surgery. The outer side of the upper part of my left thigh also frequently falls asleep.

Did you guys cook normally after the surgery or did you get arrangements for food and household things after the surgery?
