Hi there, I'm having a big relapse of symptoms recently after having had 3 weeks of Acupuncture treatment. My question to everyone is has had a relapse after treatment? I should be so glad if someone would reply I'm feeling really dreadful at present. Sickly, IBS, constipation, and generally feeling poorly well you all know what it's like!

Thank you hopefully.

Sorry I missed out words! That should say "has anyone else had bad reaction after Acupuncture treatment?"

      Hi Yvonne,

Firstly, sorry to hear you're feeling so bad after therapy. I've not had acupuncture but, a friend who also has Cfs/me, had cranial osteopathy treatment and it took them at least a month to feel the payback symptoms diminish from that. They were supposed to have 3 treatments but gave up after the 1st bad reaction. Maybe it will be similar for you and symptoms will calm down soon.

      Hope that is helpful

Hi Yvonne. so sorry you're having this response post acu/P intervention. it's not easy.

i tend to have 'reactions' to any kind of energy 'medicines/interventions' that's  too strong  - they tend to overwhelm it. incremental gentle interventions (whether energetic or other)  work v. well for me. i'm wondering, if since the AcuP. tends to balance out the energies, that  your body now doesn't have the resources to maintain that level of balance without the stimulus/support  of AcuP.

would it be worth having a word with the Acu/Puncturist. s/he maybe able to explain what's happening @ an energetic level and be able to gentle support the energy available to get you back to baseline.

    Hi Yvonne,

I hope you feel better soon.

I've had some kind of relapse after a period of weekly deep tissue massages. Obviously they were too much for my system. Sometimes it's difficult to know what exactly causes what, but after a couple of weeks of these massages (that in the beginning gave me more energy, dangerous for us, because we tend to overdo it of course as soon as we perceive more energy) I also got a throat infection from which it took me weeks to recover. The relapse itself took longer.

I did not have this problem with cranio sacral treatments, but only take one every x months.

I agree with Caitlin, it might be interisting to talk to your acupuncturist. First of all, she or he will also learn from this experience, and more importantly, he/she might be able to give you some gentle support.

    Take care.

Hi Yvonne. Years ago my Physio did acupuncture for neck pain.  For me it caused a lot of heat to the area treated, then more stiffness and pain due to the heat.  I can't remember how long it took the symptoms to improve, but it made me worse and unable to function at the level I was at before the treatment. I had the same reaction to Indian Head Massage many years ago and am now very wary of having any similar treatments.  I hope you feel better soon.

Hello everyone, thank you so much for replying so quickly! Well if only I had thought to ask that question before I had the Acupuncture. It definitely DID help with the nerve pain I was experiencing which of course is a plus, and I would recommend it to some... But maybe err on the side of caution on the M. E/ Chronic fatigue front. Once again thanks for all your replies, it is such a help being able to chat on these Forums.

Hoping to feel better soon, and best wishes to all.

I have regular acupuncture every other week.  If I get a virus or infection it knocks me back weeks. May be for you too ?

Thanks for that Alexi, I do think it worth considering....I do think Acupuncture is helpful it definitely helped with the original reason I went for which was nerve pain.  But considering how bad all my ME symptoms have become since I would think carefully next time, however I sincerely hope that the original nerve pain has.....'slung it's hook' so to speak!!

thank you SO much for taking the time to write I very much appreciate it.

Do hope your weekend is a good one.

      Best regards,

      Yvonne
