Hi all! Guess at first just an update that I did feel pretty bad a week or two after playing that gig, however it was no way near as bad as I would've thought and am still very glad I did it and would easily do it again if given the choice.
So yesterday I had acupuncture for the first time in my life. I'd researched it a lot and there has been a lot of scientific studies proving how beneficial acupuncture is to a whole host of various diseases and disorders etc, and Post Viral Fatigue was one of them. I thought it's at least worth a go even f it only helps a little bit it will be worth it. The only thing is the price, 55 pounds for the first appointment (which is an hour and a half long) and the follow up appointments are 42 pounds (an hour long), obviously I'd imagine it's different prices all over the place but the woman, Rachel, who I went to see had a degree in both Traditional Chinese Medicine and Psychology so I guessed it seems worth the money to see someone that qualified. Even then it's not my money, because I've not been able to work for as long as I've been ill which is about 6/7 months now, it's my parents money and I feel bad because of the amount of money it is but they insisted it's fine and said they don't mind paying as long as it helps.
So I went through with it and it was pretty amazing. The majority of it was a consultation where basically I explain what's wrong with me and she asked me questions on that, because as she put it, everyone's different and has different symptoms that need treating etc. That in itself was quite nice because it was essentially just therapy where I spill out all my problems to someone which was cathartic. Then the last half an hour or so was some light acupuncture which she said we'd start off lightly because of how damaged my body is due to post viral, plus I let her know that I'm terrified of needles. It was only two needles, one around my shin on my left leg and one on the right side of my right leg, she said they were supposed to help with healing my system as a whole and I felt quite a weird (but not uncomfortable) tingling in my right leg for the first couple of minutes it was in, which she said was good and that was called Chi which meant energy in Chinese I think. Despite that feeling though I barely felt them go in at all, it is a hard sensation to describe really but it definitely isn't painful, and this is coming from someone whose terrified of even having a blood test. And then she put some acupressure things on my left ear, both of which I still have as of talking right now, which are supposed to help with anxiety and one of them I can press on which gives a calming effect and it really does work! She then left for me 5-10 minutes with some relaxing music to basically just zone out and I felt just unbelievably calm and relaxed. I wouldn't say my headache/brain fog felt any different but I definitely felt better then I usually do and I'd say I still feel abit better then normal now although I don't feel the same as when the needles where in obviously. The main thing it seemed to help was my stress and anxiety, which she said was the main goal of that appointment.
I guess I just thought I'd post this to encourage people who've been suffering for a long time to give it a try! Obviously I understand financially it's quite a lot of money and I'm usually a very skeptical person but I definitely noticed a positive difference immediately and that was only after the first appointment, here's hoping it can have an even more positive effect after a few more appointments!

Hi George,
That is understandable that you would feel tired for a while after the gig that you did recently, that took a lot of mental energy out of you building yourself up to that just as much as physical exertion of doing it on the night. Hoping that you are feeling a bit better now and more settled and balanced again. I still think it's a really good and courageous thing you did and you should be very proud!
Really pleased to hear that you found the acupuncture really helpful - sometimes George it's just finding the thing that can really help and make a difference for you. I've had acupuncture before too and yes you don't feel the needles at all hardly and it can be very relaxing. Sometimes the physio gives me it for my back and it can be a nice sensation just to help relax the muscles in that area. If you find it helpful, it sounds worth continuing with it. I know it is expensive but if you are finding benefit from it and it is helping your health then it sounds like it's for it for sure.
For me another thing I've found really helpful is Bowen Therapy. It's an alternative therapy which is also very relaxing and non-evasive, it can help with all sorts of ailments, I first had it when I had sciatica and it really worked wonders for that can't tell you how much it really was amazing! That costs for me too it's about £35 but I find it helpful too so I've continued to have it for almost 10 years now.
Hoping things can continue to improve George I know you've been through such a rough time this last while, so here's hoping things are looking up and I really think you've been making progress and are going to make a full recovery with some more time.

Hi Craig,
Thank you so much for your kind words again! I am proud of myself for definite it still doesn't feel real to be honest.
The acupuncture definitely helped but my head still feels like someones playing the drums inside of it 24/7 but it would be silly to expect a huge change in such a short amount of time and that's not what I expected anyway. I might give Bowen Therapy a try if the acupuncture doesn't do too much in the next few sessions for sure have heard good things about it!
Honestly alot of the time it feels like i'm not making any progress at all, the brain fog and headache are just as intense as ever really, but i'm trying my best to keep calm and remain as positive as I can because I think in the long term that will help alot. Also reading other peoples recovery stories and the like it seems like you can go for long stretches with this without any real change and then suddenly will have a good bit of progress so hoping for that soon really. It's just that cold I got in December it set me back so much I felt like I was making so much progress upto that point. Just frustrating.

Hey George,
Hoping so much these headaches and this brain fog can settle down - it is a real rollercoaster this virus and just want to encourage and reassure you that things won't always be this way, that they will get much better with time and absolutely my experience was too that it almost felt like I was 'stuck' at a similar level for a long time then took a big step forward in a short space of time - so hang in there George there is no rhyme or reason or text book for recovery with this thing - everyone's experience is difference but the key thing to hold on to and remember is that the vast vast vast majority of people do make a full recovery with time and get back to full health again - and I'm believing you will too thanks to God!
Hoping for a settled and good week ahead, and still think you've been showing great courage with going to your gig and the things you've been doing after such a hard time around Christmas - a great step forward so just continue to take things at your own pace and remember you will get there! Keep in touch and let us know how you are doing.
