Acute anxiety/depression 4 weeks after quitting tramadol

Just wondered if anyone could relate to my experience.
Due to a bad back I was taking tramadol 50mg or 2 x 50mg per day for four months. I never really felt well on them - shaky, cold sweats, nausea but after a particularly bad couple of days I couldn't face taking them cause they made me feel so bad.
I quit cold turkey and never took another but had intense awful withdrawals for a week followed by less intense but manageable withdrawals. 2 weeks later I was suddenly hit by a wall of sudden and extreme nausea and anxiety and feelings of just awfulness. This carried on for weeks and then escalated again into what was bordering in panic attacks which I have never experienced anything like this or anxiety in my life.
I am now just trying to piece it all together and personally I think it's all related to the quitting of tramadol. What a dreadful experience- any thoughts anyone?

Hi I was given tramadol 50 then 100 fir conective tissue illness. I did not know that u had to take it every day not just when u hurt. So I would take for days ymthen not take at all. It really never helped me. But after surgery and 2.50 weeks in ICU in Houston hospital I kept taking for 2 months day and night. I read about the tons of side effects and found out it is an opioid. I can not tolerate any of that class drugs. I started having serious neck and shoulder pain. I could not turn my neck at all. I had cramps and constant urge to have bowel movement. I am arrivated easily,so in pain I can not sleep. My anxiety is horrible. My fourth day down to 1/2 of a 50mg. And no better. Headaches that are horrible. I am so weak.I cant go to store. I read where it can be horrible and serious to stop cold turkey. I don't know when it will stop. But I do know if all of us with this problem go andxrepirt to DRAmA they'll be forced to verbally tell us the danger. Don't know what to do but at least I know others have problems. Ought to stop almost all lecturer drugs unless monitored by specialist and I do not mean pain Dr. this is where they all get addicted and our givernebtcis so unorganized it does nothing. Good luck. Google side effects and with it her meds. I was taking knonopin and tramadol together. This can make you deathly ill, fall, etc.

Yes, coming off tramadol caused clinical depression for which I was treated for four years with antidepressants. Tramadol is not onlly a pain killer but also an antidepressant which works like an SSRI. Coming off it can cause severe rebound depression in some people. I am sorry you are going through this. It is an awful drug which many GPs just don't know the half of.

Hi evergreen
It's taken a while to piece it all together but my gp who has been very good said he didn't think it was the tramadol and I got diagnosed with gastroenteritis when that intense nausea hit me. Six weeks later after increasing anxiety and dreadful nausea I got started on antidepressants which I am now starting to respond to. Gosh what a nightmare this has been. I do blame the tramadol and will never ever take it again. I don't think gps realise what it's like to get off this stuff and I didn't until I read about it and the ssri component.
I think my brain crashed , it's been very frightening to say the least. I thought I was going out of my mind with the anxiety.

If we all filed a complaint with FDA then may see it pulled. I read the results on this site on it alone and as I was taking it knew I was in trouble. I can't any opids, did not know this was one. In horrible shape to day really sick at stomach, diarrhea, headache, fatique. Have you reported it to medical for your state. Judee

I did put in a complaint about it on the yellow card scheme MHRA. It wasn't a controlled drug at that time and now it is, so I think plenty of people must have reported adverse effects.

The Dr said I was on a low dose and shouldn't have had any issues. They don't see a connection between my anxiety/ nausea and coming off tramadol 4 weeks before.

My doctor. Primary care moved while I was in Houston having surgery. I guess I have no one to ask. I was on 100 mg twice day. The longer I took the more problems I had. I looked up side effects and never so so many. I am on Coumadin which it do not take with it,klonopin twice day which was, taking both pills togeher. I got down to half dose am and pm 2 days. Then took 25mg twice day. Having such bad problems can't do anything or eat. Nothing I know to do now. Can we get a group on Facebook where u join and tell stories

I dnt as well i was taken off for about 3 wks, had no issues all they did was replace it with ibuprofen. I also was a low dose i believe it was i think 50mg as needed. I do find it alot better then the ibuprofen, ibuprofen just gives me a horrible tummy aches. I still take it as needed which isnt much mayb 1 in the afternoon, but i take well supposed 2 take 60 mgs of morphine a day but i cut 1 30mgs pill in half n take that 1 half in the morning & 12 hrs later the other half. Ive been doing just fine. I do wish u the best...
