ACUTE HERPETIC KERATITIS

This is the rather scary title for Viral Cold Sore Infection (EYES)

I have no idea where it came from as I have never had a cold sore ever

I only know that it is extremely painful

It starte 12days ago,and I just thought I had probably got a bit of

gardening debris in the eye and used Optrex to soothe it, ByThursday it

was very sore bloodshot and the lids were a little swollen .So I rang

the GP for an emegency visit I met a locum, obviously newly qualified,

Iexplained that there was a lot of pain under my upper lid. She duly

looked at my eye which she said was perfect .so ,i tried again saying

it felt as though there was a razor blade under the lid She lifted the lid

and said she couldn't see anything   and to come back if it got worse

It did get worse over the next Three days

so Monday morning I went to where I should have gone in the first

place, the Eye clinic at the hospital  It opens at 8-30,I wa there at 8 as I

know it gets very busy

Duly seen and given drops and a thorough  looking at ,and he told me

the reasons ,and even bothered to show me the pictures ,looked like

three, ( yes I have three of the blighters  )squiggles gave me some

eye drops and an appointment for next week

It is now Wednesday and eleven drops later ,and i can see nor feel

any change It still hurts like mad blood shot and puffy eyelid

As you can see by the time it is quite early, but it looks as though

I will go back to the clinic

Anyone else had this prob and, most important, did it go away???

    Jacqueline, do not worry!

Oh dear me, I do need a secretary!!  I was having a shower.

I made a poor girl in America laugh, this was on an Iritis forum.  She was worried about her red eye, I said that I was wearing a red top, to co-ordinate with my red eye!  Today, though, my top is black, still goes pretty well with the red eye though.

Carry on with your drops as you have been instructed to.  See what your Ophthalmologist says.  Restrict your computer work, you have probably also got dry eyes, ignore the watering, dry eye syndrome means that you are lacking in some essential oils that your eye makes.

When you see your GP, ask for some Hyabak eye drops.  They are preservative free, which is important.  Do not use them at the same time as your other eye drops - gives them time to work.  They say at least 5 minutes between drops.

    Don't worry.

I have to use steroid drops every hour & dilating drops 'when necessary' currently about 4 times a day & still my eye is bright red and extremely painful.

Hi Jacqueline, I have had my eye condition for a long time. It was originally diagnosed in 1984 but the daignosis has been updated several times over the years.

You are not being a wuss!  You are trying to make sense of what is happening & you are asking a lot of questions.  I did the same & I still do but as my situation has changed/developed, my questions become more complex.
