Acute lightheadedness...
Posted ,
Today I had an appointment and for the 1st time I had such acute lightheadedness when getting out of the car I had to brace myself against the nearest wall as I thought I was going to faint! I've had the same experience before when getting up to fast, but it always passed very quickly. Today it lasted a good 60-70sec. which seemed like an eternity! It was pretty frightening. Now, I've been home for 45m. and am still feeling shakey and a bit lightheaded still, not like before, but still!
Has anyone else experienced such extreme lightheadedness? I emphasize that as it's not dizziness! Thx.

I had the same thing. The pred can raise your blood pressure it certainly did with me. My doctor put me on ramipiril to lower my blood pressure. Having said that i still got dizzy spells from time to time when i got stressed and anxious .....I used to put my feet in some warm to hot water and have a cuppa which helped me to relax.....kind thoughts lynda.. hope this dizzy phase passes soon the pred journey is one phase after another...

Good mornin' mary! Once again, thank you for your reply. I'm probably gonna need your advice on stress relievers today as I'm gearing up to immerse myself in tv right now and observe our wonderful current administration at it's finest
Please refer to my post to nick a few minutes ago. As I stated to him, you two always put a smile on my face!
I'll let you know in awhile about the results from my blood work and bone density test.
Thanks for the smiles!

Hi MK, thus far I've not been able to take your Very Wise advice.....too caught up in all the fallout from the dang hearing on thur!
However, it's Sunday tomorrow and for me that means 49er football, so I WILL be taking a break from politics then. Not sure how less stressful that will be tho as our Star quarterback got injured last week and is out for the Season!😭

Reading quickly through this thread, your heart sensations sound like what I had. In fact I first noticed them years ago and was sent for some sort of test, on a treadmill, can't really remember. Got much worse when I was on pred. Doctor "not worried" and no investigation. Then when on holiday this spring I happened to mention to a fellow traveller that I'd been waking up with headaches every morning. She suggested I needed more salt. As we were at dinner she made me grind a little salt onto my plate and take a taste with my fingertip. She said if it tasted good it would mean I was salt deficient. I did this. it was delicious! She told me to keep on tasting it until it didn't taste good any more. It kept on tasting good so eventually I stopped. But the next morning I didn't have a headache. I eventually realized that this had been going on for so long I expected to wake up with a headache, although sometimes it would go away quickly. A couple of evenings later I was doing the same thing, eating grains of salt, when suddenly it tasted awful and I knew I'd finally had enough. Until the last week or two I haven't had a single morning headache. But I got a bit slack and didn't taste salt in the evenings to see if I wanted more, and I've had morning headaches again the last little while (not same as a weather-related migraine).
The point of this long account is, along with not getting morning headaches my heartbeat stopped feeling like it was skipping! And a few other vague symptoms (aching legs and, for a time, a feeling not of dizziness but of lightheadedness, as though I wasn't really present) also went away. I have kept tabs on my blood pressure. Before this all happened my normally low blood pressure had started to creep up close to the danger zone (again the doctor wasn't worried), but now it is completely back to my usual low normal.
I believe I've had a low salt intake for many many years, brainwashed like so many of us into believing the less salt the better. But with pred and improving my already healthy diet I wasn't even getting the occasional top up of salt from eating prepared foods, which do contain too much salt, and became definitely salt deficient.

Wow Anhaga-- your symptoms (am headaches, lightheadedness/not being present, and the heartbeat) are exactly what I'm experiencing! Today, even more so. In fact, I'm not feeling 'myself' at all!
As far as the salt situation, I'm very confused. I've always been told to watch my salt intake (I tend to retain fluid) and so I really good about that. But given your experience and the fact I share so many of your same symptoms....now I don't know😕. I guess I need to try your experiment! Yukkk...salt by itself.
I'll let you know how it works, that is, if I don't balloon up from water retention! .....and the beat goes on🎶

If a few grains of salt by itself does taste "yuk" then it means you don't need it. It really is just a few grains at a time. And salty food doesn't work for this experiment.

Ahh, ok....I Was confusing salt w/salty foods (which I try to avoid). I'll bite the bullet and try the experiment later today as I just awoke. I'll let you know the outcome!

Think about it. Animals, like the grazing animals of Africa, seek out salt licks. They know how much salt they need. It's not like sugar where you will crave more and never be satisfied . The body really is able to judge how much salt it needs, but the presence of salty food upsets that ability. I think one can happily eat salted nuts all day, but you'd never voluntarily keep on licking up grains of salt!
