Acute pancreatitis miss diagnosed

Ok I have a question on acute pancreatitis. I had my first attack in August and it was miss diagnosed. So without correct diagnosis I kept eating and drinking things that made it reoccur over the next few months with several mild to moderate attacks. Now do I have any chance this will heal or did I do permanent damage and make this a chronic issue? I know I need a Dr to make an official diagnosis. Im just frustrated with the lack of knowledge in this field. I did start at the end of September a detox period just water and ensure Im hoping its not to late as like doctor I had little knowledge of this disease.

Same thing happened to me! I was misdiagnosed for 2 months cause the blood test my doctor ordered never showed my amylase and lipase levels. I was angry about that for a while but realized there was t much I could do but take care of myself. Stay low fat, no dairy or deep fried. And no alcohol and you will start feeling better. I'm still healing but am feeling much better after 6 months, almost 100% so just take care of yourself. Also take vitamins like C, E, antioxidants, and chromium picolinate

Thanks so much for the quick responces. I have been working hard to correct the issues. I quit smoking in April after I found out what the real problem was I quit drinking (most likely the main cause) cut out fats. I will try taking vitamins as well. I heard antioxidants will help too? Hoping when i see the GI Dr Thursday I can get an endoscopy scheduled a CT scan and blood work and find out the extent of the damage.

Curcumin and Grapefruit Seed Extract have helped many pancreatitis sufferers.

Ok quick update seen Gastro dr. today, in 2 weeks I get an ultrasound. Then mid November I get an endoscopy and finally beginning of December find out what is happening and what the plan is. Ugh the waiting is almost as painful as the acual pain. I did do a few days of water detox, not the best decision I went to ER yesterday dizziness and very high pulse rate 150's with chest pain. I forced my self to eat yesterday had 4 ensures 2 yogurts and some cream of wheat. Mild discomfort was back today. Then like a dummy I looked at those ensure bottles, 11 grams of fat per bottle way way to much fat for just feeling better.

    Hi there

I was reading your discussion and I thought to ask you my question. Will you please tell me how is the pain of the pancretites attacks? Does pancreas pain involves the large colon? I've been suffering from stomach pain mostly in the upper side. My ribs are painful I can't touch them. My both sides of my stomach hurts it's burining. I suffer from constupation. I've see no diffrent gastronologysts and none knows why I'm suffering. I had gallbladder removal four years ago and since then I'm not the same person. I've done many stool tests, blood tests, ct scan and MRCP. All were normal. Food don't hurt me that much it's just I never feel full beacuse MTV stomach keeps hurting. I don't know if this is pancreas or colon or something else. Any suggestion would be helpful thank you.

Hi Kate - Like Reevil, my pain was similar. My initial attack ended up with removal of my gallbladder. I was told I had "sludge" in my gallbladder, not actually stones and my amylase test came back very high. The pain radiated from the upper stomach, lower chest and radiated right through the middle of my back. When I went to the ER they gave me one of the most disgusting medicine to drink to bring the pain down. It was a lidocaine high ball and I will never forget how disgusting it tasted. I can describe the pain as "riveting".. it takes your breath away and you take notice ... You realize something is going wrong and it's not just gas. Whether or not it affects the colon, I am unsure but all the tests I had concentrated on the upper areas of the gallbladder, pancreas, spleen, etc. I'm imagining everything is connected and it wouldn't be unusual for the rest of the body to sympathize with the cause. There are blood tests such as the amylase that are the tell all tale of pancreatitis. You may or may not have a fever and vomiting. With mine, I felt nauseaus but did not vomit. Fats and alcohol are by far the worst thing for pancreatitis.

I hope I helped some. I was similar to Resevil but did not have any discoloration. I could however, place my finger right on the pain.

I wish you well and hope you feel better.

      Hi glenn

Thanks for your respond. I've had numerous blood works that showed nothing and many stool tests for cancer, and other colon problems that showed completely normal. I've had special blood test that was checking on inflammation that thank god doctor told me it's perfectly perfect. 😳 But I feel inflammation in my colon or stomach. Right now I am waiting for a new test that is called Cologurd and it's more sensitive than the other stool test for checking on cancer. I had a complicated surgery my galblader was inflamed, infected and ready to burst. The Surgon had a hard time removing it. I had a week drainage attachaed on me. And now I am facing the consequences. Two years ago suddenely ive vegan having a stomach pain and burn. I've done whatever I could I diet I watch what I eat but nothing helped. I became severely constupated. Then I did not know if it was my colon or pancreas beacuse the pain was all over going to my chest and my back. I ran to many specialists I even did MRCP everything came back normal. But I was suffering from mysterious pain and constupation. I began searching on line and I kept seeing cancer or pancreas problem. So I've began watching my food to see which one hurts me more. But I didn't have that much difficulty with greasy food and my stool never got greasy or smelly. After a year the pain got little better and I could feel the problematic area beacuse whenever I had bowl movment I could feel it's moving and whenever the stool were reaching the upper left side to go down I would get sever cramp and pain. Sometimes that part was vibrating and waking nfcme up at night. That's why I can not difrenciate which one I have pancretites or colon problem. Beacuse thier symptoms are to close. I still have pain in both side of my stomach along with the large colon path. I wonder why nothing showed in any of the tests that I've done.

Well for me and im no doctor, please just use this as reference not fact, im in early stages of testing and still not sure the extent. My actue attacks are usually on the upper left side just below the ribs and radiates to back, abdomen is very tender and discolored. Also the pain is very localized to the point I can actualy place a finger on the exact spot. From what I know the pancreas makes enzymes for digesting fat and insulin for sugar. If I eat a few french fries or anything with grease im in agony for hours. Its hard to know for sure as there so many possible causes with similar symtoms. As for your question the pancreas ties into small intestine so maybe something like gastritis, which is inflimation of the small intestines and colon.

So I have made little progress in getting a definitive diagnosis. Had an ultra sound on Tuesday to look at my right side, liver and kidney. More blood urine test to look at pancreas, liver enzymes all normal. Frustrating still not knowing, endoscopy scheduled for Nov 16th maybe I can get it moved up. Im tired and in pain and not knowing how to keep the pain at bay.

Ok so I got my results from ultra sound. Feeling better but still confused. Liver normal without focal abnormalities. Gallbladder contains sludge or small stones. Biliary tree nondilated, common heptic duct 3mm. Pancreas visualized head body normal. Kidney 10.2cm no stones or hydronephrosis. IVC normal caliber.

    Impession:

Small stones and sludge in Gallbladder.

Ok so how does this cause pain on left side after eating?
