Acyclovir - nerves about taking
Posted , 2 users are following.
Hi all,
So I have decided after 6 OB's in 4.5 months that I need to try suppressive therapy. I can't get it prescribed so have ordered it from an online pharmacy. Have just been doing some reading up on it and see there can be quite a lot of side effects can anyone share their experience of taking it long term?
Thanks in advance

Hurrah, I'm glad you decided to try it out and order online! Who did you order with in the end, SuperDrug or MedExpress? Did you start with a 3-month supply first or full year? It takes five days to take full effect, just fyi.
I can't personally comment, but acyclovir is the original anti-herpes drug and there are many people who take it and who have been taking it long-term, so you are in good company. Just keep up your fluid intake whilst on any of the meds, whether acyclovir or another (noted in the patient leaflet).
Hope it works for you!

Thanks Felis! I went with MedExpress and got them delivered to a friend's house in Northern Ireland so it'll be a few days before they get delivered there then another couple to get them shipped here. I just felt I have to try something... I've got such a lot of weird sensations around the tops of my legs and around my private area that even when I'm not suffering from an outbreak I still don't feel "normal" as such. It's hard to try to be normal when you don't even feel physically normal!
I probably shouldn't even have read up on side effects to be honest as I've only succeeded in worrying myself now! I guess it's the fact that I won't have started them under a doctor's guidance so if any crazy things happen I'll be going to ER as this crazy lady who ordered drugs online 😂
I've also got an appointment next week with some STI specialist who is known to be one of the top guys in Ireland. I'm only going in the hope that if I cry to him he may give me a prescription for it so at least then I can buy in Ireland and claim tax back on it whereas when buying online I can't. See what he says anyway.. I'm not too hopeful!
My next hurdle is getting through my first date since being diagnosed ... I know it's gonna be in the back of my kind the whole way through. But.. A worry for another day! For now I'm just glad to have the meds ordered and hopeful that the website is 100% genuine!

Don't worry! It looks legit. Lots of positive reviews on trustpilot, etc.

Hi.
ive been taking aciclovir as an episodic treatment, since diagnosis almost a year ago. I've not suffered side effects other than sometimes it makes me feel a little nauseous. if I needed to take it as a suppressant, based on my experience of it in episodic treatment, I would.
